Skulker: he is running toward first base in the first panel. If we’re looking from home plate in the second panel, he would be on first base.
Then again, maybe he hit a triple.
Than again again, I have no explanation for the bench. It shouldn’t be there even if he’s running toward third. It’s too close.
Oh well…maybe Berke doesn’t know much about baseball.

Quiet counts, in my book! Ta ta, Stevie-boy! Enjoy your very-cold shower!

It sure looks like he ran directly to, and is standing on, third base in panels one & two. Witness the bench and the base lines.

Of course when you’re playing in a yard, lot or meadow instead of a regulation ball field, furniture can be present.

He’s having a conversation with a penguin wearing a hat and bowtie and you’re worried about the base count?

Monsieur Fizzygerry has a point.

I’ve seen Penguin Movies - they may be slow, but they can cover an amazing amount of ground (frozen sheets of Ice)!

Bill the Cat is unique to Bloom County as well. Top that Doonesbury! You know you can’t.

Doonesbury is more “realistic” than Bloom County: no anthropomorphized animals.
On the other hand, did John Denver ever appear offstage in Bloom County?
