Weighing oneself on the scale of human worth is heady stuff for these guys…..good thinking stuff, Berkeley (and for us to ponder for ourselves). Which is, of course why you drew it. Well done……

A better question is “if the world economy totally breaks down and we all end up living in caves, will I be warm and comfortable or giving a wolf indigestion?”

My thinking is similar to that of ejcapulet. IOW, I may be a rock on the scale of human worth and the nicest guy in the whole world, but when [not if] the world economy breaks down and anarchy becomes rampant will I be strong enough to survive. That requires traits much different than those of the scale of human worth. 40 years ago I would have said, “Hell yes!” Now I’m old, slow and crippled. In such a time of woe I suspect my time on the earth would not be lengthy [but I’ll still take 2 or 3 with me before I go. Hell yes!]

jrbj, if the world economy breaks down and anarchy becomes rampant, as advertised on the so-called “History” channel with depressing frequency, what would be the point in a lengthy survival? Although I would point out that most of the guns and ammo would be gone after a very few years, and so would a lot of the gangs (cause and effect there).

Orgelspieler: First, I wasn’t alluding to the History Channel, I was alluding to the direction world government, including ours, it taking. A total government breakdown isn’t a done deal by any means, but we sure are heading that direction. Second, the point of a lengthy survival would be that eventually humans would group together [we are social animals after all] and something new would rise up. While it is a long row for humans to hoe, I still have hope that someday they will evolve into beings that can actually get along with each other and quit all the war and violent behavior.

The maelstrom(s) will separate the leaves from the rocks.

YOU WILL KNOW… without much reflection.
