Cartoons always show the impossible. Like the flags/ pennants on sailing ships always trail backward. Any sailor knows they’ll point forward with the wind.
I’m having a hard time with the physics here, too. Did mythbusters mount the fan on shore, or on another boat?
Any boat with a fan mounted to it should become an airboat, like in the old Gentle Ben series. The boat would move opposite the direction of flow through the fan. Unless the sail was over 100% efficient, I’m not seeing any forward progress with this rig..
..so the fan blows perpendicular to the motion of the boat. I see. I had that visual of Popeye standing there blowing straight into the back of the sail, and got stuck there.

Not only you of smallish stature, but also the flat, framed 2-D guy on the wall (who is he?)….

Mario Cuomo, maybe?

This couldn’t happen. If anything, Opus would be driven in the opposite direction (the blower acting like a jet engine).

Sure looks like Governor Cuomo to me.

check out Mythbusters. they actually moved a sailboat by blowing the sail with a fan. i wouldn’t have believed it was possible.
