We have an Ooma voip phone, and our cells. Every call coming into the Ooma device gets screened, and only 1 of every 10 calls are actually calls we want to take.
We keep our land line because our cell service is spotty. Our cells use our WiFi as well as cell which works great. But last Monday we had a power outage followed by our generator failing too. I had to climb to the top of our driveway to get a decent signal to call the power company and the generator company, in the rain. I could have made the calls from the one actual wired land line phone but I needed to be by the generator anyway so the tech could walk me thru a manual start. Didn’t work so needed a service call.
We keep a landline (tariff rate, < $20 monthly) just for emergencies. But it stays in the garage, with the ringer turned low. But I’ve noticed in the past few months that the dialtone disappears whenever the power goes out. The phone network runs on batteries (the only reason I’ve kept landline), so we may drop it when we upgrade ISP.
What about the guys from the Windows Security Team, who have been monitoring your computer and found suspicious activity that indicates you have a virus in your system? They still use land lines?
