    Yeah, I was going to say this is the correct answer. I learned this “after” my experience getting caught trying to jump some river silt doing a survey in a state park, miles from the park office. My buddy, once they stopped laughing and telling me to “come on, just get myself out” and offering their hand from 10 feet away, finally realized from all the cussing I really was stuck, and sinking.

    They found a plank of wood nearby, oddly convenient, (maybe I wasn’t the first to get caught here?) to toss to me that gave me leverage to press on while I extricated my trapped leg. Sprained my hamstring fighting the ooze, but finally figured out to bend my leg and let my heel lead the way back up. Then crawled on the plank the rest of the way across.

    I had way too many Bugs Bunny cartoons with bad endings running through my head in the ordeal.
