Years ago I worked for a vet. One Saturday, shortly before closing, a young man came in. He looked a little feral but was very courteous. I don’t remember if his name or his dog’s name was Jesse. His dog had gotten into ditch water and needed to be cleaned up. The young man said up front he didn’t have enough money to cover the entire bath, but he’d pay up as soon as he could if we’d bathe his dog. We did, and he did. This story is included here because the only thing that smelled worse than that poor dog was when i thought I remembered that my family kept the left-over turkey carcass out on the table. For several days (we didn’t.) Ditch water is nothing to joke about!
