Amelia runs of to the big city. Wallace, Spud and Rose form a rescue party and go to the city too. The parents and school wonder why everything is so peaceful until they figure out what has happened. They then form a rescue party and go to the city. Mr. Maclellan and Sterling come back from fishing and wonder where everyone has gone …
Yes, at Amelia’s age I too wanted nothing more than to get out of the slow poke town with nowhere to go and nothing to do. Oh, how I craved the bright lights of the big city….
Now at my age, I crave to go back to that boring, wonderful, rural – oh wait, I’m here :-))
The Seamoons is a mechanical construct that combines a stretchy membrane, servos and an artificial lung (oscillating bellows or pressurized bladder) to create “The singing robot” It sounds like a cross between a kazoo and letting the air out of a balloon and was used in the Psycho Mob 100 soundrack
I grew up in a small New England town like Snug Harbor and it was great with so many places to explore. I did not want out until I turned 12 and wanted more mature activities, like bowling, shopping, DATING, movies, etc. A town with 0 movie screens, only 6 bowling LANES, 1 pool table, etc, does not give a whole lot of options for dating. And going to the old swimming hole is only viable for about a month out of the year.

Amelia is correct. We’ve got to get out of this place.

It’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way.

“Why be humble when I’m this awesome?”
“You’re not awesome but awful.”

It’s important to know your own self-worth.

With a tree like that, of course you have to make a swing of it. And if Amelia leaves, so do I.

Was there a time warp? Are the cartoon KIDS suddenly in their mid-teens? No third grader ever said those words.

At least she’s not on her phone all the time, like most “too cool for you” kids would be nowadays.

How can any town with Sterling in it be considered boring?

I think Rose loves her town. Maybe a day Amelia will do that too.

Girls have been taught that they should be humble for centuries. But boys less so — Amelia is right, why be humble when she’s freakin’ awesome?!
