My daughter, born in 1990, loved Barney. And yes, it was a bit corny, but for preschool kids and their parents it was a good, wholesome show. She loved when we’d sing the theme song together. We had Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo in our day. I suppose they were just as corny as Barney was in the ’90s.

Word on the street is that Barney is getting a new TV show later this year, too. Unlike the original, it’ll be fully animated and the characters will look completely different. Yep, this ain’t gonna be your mama’s Barney.

There was at least one Barney movie released in theaters in the ‘90s, so this isn’t big news.

Barney the Purple Paedophile needs to be shot… after those responsible for That Song are fed to him. Alive.

    Nope, not a fan.

I happened to catch a Teletubbies episode (probably on a local PBS station) and OH MY GOD! I can’t think of an appropriate adjective to describe how mind numbing it was. They have characters as Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Po and Laa-Laa. I miss Mighty Mouse, Underdog and the Flintstones.

Gen X here. I loved Captain Kangaroo, Romper Room, the Electric Company, and of course, Mr. Rogers. My younger brother was the perfect age for Reading Rainbow with Levar Burton who continues to be a fabulous literacy advocate. Did the purple dinosaur actually teach kids anything useful or just sing awful songs?

My at the time teen son always sang quite a few different version of the Barney song….. Two that I remember: I hate youYou hate me Let’s get out and kill Barney I’ll get the matches and you get the gas Let’s go burn his big fat a$$. And, I hate you, you hate me, let’s hang Barney from a tree With a kick in the guts, and a punch from me and you No more purple dinosaur
