Well today is Sunday, and one thing that means for me is I randomly pick a cartoon to try in addition to my regular ones. That one has one week to impress me or it got back into the pile. This week I’ve picked Pibgorn. I know I love the artwork, but never got into the story lines. Maybe this time will be different, though I’m scared to have another chatty comment section (thought not as scared as I would be if I picked SOTU).

Good morning Tribe. On the way back from church I picked up a double order of Krispy Kreams, including the lovely filled ones. I love fudge filled, chocolate filled and bavarian cream filled. But I got more than enough for everyone to make le pigs of themselves. Krispy Creams are like shrimp, you’ll always find room for just one more.

Rough week at work, working two desks. Drifting off to sleep at computer, smelling Chicken in the oven. Yummy and easy to make. Aw heck, why not:

    Easy Chicken and Rice

in a large, greased/Pamacized casserole dish put 2 1/4 cup water, 1 package Lipton Beefy Onion Soup (recipe) 1 cup of rice. Mix well then lay about 2lbs of chicken on top (I do 2-3 breasts). Pop in oven at 400 degrees until chicken is done (about 1 to 1.5 hours). Dish out and enjoy. Also rewarms well.

Enough from Quaby’s Cook Book….at Least I don’t serve Man

Morning [afternoon, evening] all. I just got finished reading all the comments and of course I had to go check Overboard to satisfy my voyeuristic nature. I have to confess that I didn’t see any comment that was so bad. If calling me a nerd is the worst insult anyone can come up with, I don’t think I’m going to worry too much. Or is this just a conspiracy to get me to read that strip again? I used to read it everyday but it was one of the ones I had to drop or at least cut way back on because I just don’t have the time to follow all of them. I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who sent me good wishes yesterday. I haven’t been part of Le Tribe [AKA Yappy Nuts] for very long but I’m glad I am now. BTW Can someone tell me how to get the happy symbols and music notes that are on some comments?

serena, I think we all use the”Character Map.” I used “search” on my computer to find it. It will open in a new window. I think the only fonts you can use on here are Times New Roman and Arial. There is a space where you can create your text and/or symbols. Then just copy/paste onto the comment box. Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t use the “map” too often.

Hi tribe! It’s been a busy day. I just now got my normal lap around gocomics done. Took my hubby & sons out for dinner after church, in honor of Father’s Day. He does so much of the cooking when we have a big meal, it seems appropriate. I know the restaurants won’t be as busy for Father’s Day as they were on Mother’s Day, but figured it would be less crowded today. Especially since we went to a steak restaurant with no frilly-type decor. After arriving at home, and helping kill another wasp, it was naptime. I see that RL has pulled a lot of other tribe members away today.

I can’t eat much at one sitting, so I almost always bring home a “doggie bag” when we go out for steak. Guess that’s one reason I like the mexican restaurant - one taco OR one enchilada fills me up after I’ve eaten on the chips & salsa while waiting for the main course. I only ordered a 6 oz sirloin & a baked potato to eat there. (The 2nd side I just asked to make it “to go” when I ordered, and it will be my supper tonight.) But they had delicious hot butter rolls to eat while we were waiting, and so that didn’t leave as much room for the steak & potato.

“Cowboy….. Coffee”…Being an avid backpacker, camper and all around “outdoorsy” type and having kept my share of base camps all along th A/T trail…cowboy coffee is a method of percolating …add the grounds to pot…put pot on open flame nestled against a proper burning log…allow coffee to percolate approx 20 minutes…remove from fire, allow grinds to settle….get 2 extra large eggs and being carefull separate the (yolk’s) combine both whites and slide into coffee pot…in less than 2 minutes the whites have cooked and upon introduction to the hot coffee …dragged the grinds to the bottom of the pot making he brew quite palatable with almost all the grinds trapped under the boiled egg whites…Viola …Cowboy Coffee …and with the eggstra yolks you can add them to the morning fair of Spam potatoes onions and scrambled eggs…quite delicious after a week on the trail

cleo, if you just planted those trees I would check into fertilizing them now! Some newly planted trees and shrubs should not be fertilized until fall or even next spring.

I had my dad out for dinner and then spent the evening hoeing the garden weeds, didn’t get any black plastic mulch this year because I couldn’t find any, so I will have a constant battle with the weeds until I get enough grass clippings collected to use for mulch!

Dang rabbits ate 4 of my cauliflower plants! I thought they only bothered Charlies garden! LOL

Akenta - I always have to tell the waiter/waitress if it isn’t one who has waited on us before, that “No, not the taco dinner, just the taco.”

Dry - It is hard to just sit at the table and twiddle my thumbs, especially with the smell of hot food all around. But I have a weakness for hot, buttered rolls/bread, especially if they’re not heavy. If the roll isn’t hot enough to melt the butter, then - Meh!

I hate going to buffet restaurants, because I actually enjoy taking the leftovers home. The leftovers reheat usually pretty easy (unless lettuce is involved) and make a quick & tasty lunch. That gives me two meals for the price of one, which makes it easier for me to part with that much money. (Since my hubby has been our sole support for many years, I try to be frugal.)

Rmom - I have changed my way of eating of late and fill up much faster than I used to. I stay away from buffet restaurants because I am one of the saps that feels “I have to get my moneys worth.” We went out to dinner the other day and I ended up receiving enough food for 3 meals for myself. It was a good place and it was actually on mother’s day. So because the food was so good I didn’t mind the leftovers.

But when web pages that I wanted to see would error out instead of downloading on dial-up service, I finally agreed with my husband that it was time to get it for our house.

Cleo, I still eat like a little pigger! My friends at work call me Jethro, Jethro Bodine from the Beverly Hillbillies! I dread the day I can’t eat as much, I already find myself getting a footlong sub and only eating half and saving the other half for the next day! And if I ever start to get heartburn from all my hot peppers, you best just “put my hat on my head and set me out by the garbage can”. Dry - My brother used to outeat everyone, and be skinny as a greyhound. Once his knees got bad, and middle-age hit, he is far from skinny now, because he didn’t cut back on his eating to make up for the change in exercise & metabolism. I’ve always been heavier than the average for my age, although compared to what I see in kids nowadays, I wouldn’t be. I have a metabolism that would come in handy during a famine, as it takes very little food. My grandma had to have an oversized casket (and she was huge even during the depression when they were dirt poor). I watch my MIL eat like crazy, and she weighs much less than I do. ‘Taint fair watching her stuff her face with chocolate and fatty foods, and stay slim. Then she has the nerve to keep pushing food my way, when I try to be satisfied with not taking seconds. She doesn’t do a whole lot of exercising either. It is rather frustrating to watch a slim person eat everything they want, while I gain weight eating small portions.

doctortoon - you are still young enough to not be affected, as I was at your age. Your metabolism is still in good shape (so to speak LOL). I do well. I could still eat to my heart’s content and remain relatively thin, but I want to feel better and eat healthier.

My wife though out eats me, by a lot , and is fit and slender. She is a doer though and never just sits. She does yoga every morning for flexibility and we bike ride every day.

RRAMom, I keep busy, I guess that’s why the weight hasn’t crept up on me yet, I also eat a lot of veggies. I don’t eat breakfast per se, but around 10Am at work, I have carrots, radishes, cauliflower, a chunk of cheese, V8, fruit juice whatever, I call that my breakfast!

doc, don’t you just love it! I have one cat who at anywhere between 6 and 7 am decides she wants to look out our bedroom window! And where does she jump first, on my back, starts kneading, then goes to the window! And heaven forbid if you get up in the middle of the night, you know, then 2 of them think that means they can come back in with you! The other one sleeps with my son, don’t know what she’ll do come fall!

Dry - If you stay skinny by eating mostly veggies, then you deserve to be slim. My MIL eats some veggies, but the most of her food is high in fat. She even butters brownies!

I found out years ago that if I only eat salad or fruits for a meal, I end up getting migraines a couple hours after lunch. I don’t get those if I eat more protein.

BUTTERS BROWNIES!!! I have found that once I put my mind to eating better I can mentally shut out the desire to eat high fat treats. My next move and I hate it, is that I am going to not by chocolate when this stash is finished. I sit down in front of a movie at night and crave chocolate. It is now going the way of potato chips and cookies. If it isn’t here, I can’t eat it.

RRAMom, I don’t eat much dessert, but I do use too much salt sometimes. I put it on my spring onions, tomatoes and radishes. And sometimes I eat too many chips. We have a local company that makes the best potato chips, family owned company been in business since 1935. And boy are those chips GOOD!!!!!!!!!!

cleo - You can see why it irks me to watch my MIL eat!! I’ve gone to buying single-serve portions whenever possible of foods I crave. They may cost more per ounce, but it is easier to not eat as much in one sitting, so I figure it works out okay. I’m trying to eat less of the foods I enjoy, because if I cut them out entirely, then I can’t stay with it for more than about three months.

Cleo- How tall are you, if you don’t mind me asking? Somehow I can’t get Homer out of my mind, and I’m sure you don’t want me to think you look like that.

I gained 20lbs last year after leaving work, from 99lbs to 120lbs. I never weighed more than 112lbs before though, even when I was eating like a piggy and not gaining weight. Medication is the culprit now, but I’m watching that I don’t gain any more. I’m 5’2”.

I’ve even bought the same book twice!

Shika - Me too! I guess when you’re a prodigious reader, that happens. I do keep a database on my computer of books we own, since we own so many because of homeschooling. It helps prevent buying duplicates. It isn’t that big of deal checking a book out that I’ve read before, but buying a second copy isn’t something I like doing.

Dry I found out that several members of my family (including me) have a condition that causes our blood pressures to drop suddenly, and the doctors recommend we eat MORE salt. I think that helps explain why I will get craving for something salty. I actually think the condition is more common than the experts realize at this point in time. Even though my family is mostly overweight by the height/weight, now that we’ve hit middle age, only one has been told he has high blood pressure. And that one, we’re never quite sure didn’t get mixed up at the hospital.

Shika I know the feeling. Several years ago, I gave away my childhood collection of Nancy Drew books. My boys liked Hardy Boys, but I didn’t figure they’d care to read Nancy Drew. I gave them to a private library we were members of, and figured my sons could check them out if they wanted to read them. Unfortunately, the library didn’t keep them, so my boys missed out. Time for good night!

All this talk of chips is making me hungry. I could never have chips in the house while my cat Serena was alive. She insisted on having them. If we didn’t give them to her she would go right over us to get them. I don’t really NEED chips, or ice cream or cookies or pie, but I’m seldom strong enough to turn them down. I feel guilty later.
