Hello Tabby I don’t mind that you got in ahead of me. When I was going from page 2 to page 4 the strip changed. I’ve never been this close before. I usually don’t get home for another 6 hours or so.
I hope your headache will soon be better. Get some rest and take care of yourself.
It seems you have breakfast covered so I will just add some fresh fruit, juices and some hot or iced tea.
It is too bad that I missed getting in on the conversation yesterday when everyone was talking about their pets. That is one of my favorite topics.
Now since I can’t play the horn, may I introduce my drum? Or Bagpipes? I can’t play them either, but I can make LOTS of noise.
Good morning to any one who is around. BBL.
serena - Obviously, you have at least a cat. There is nothing better than having a pet and treating it well. The love you get back is so unconditional; except for the feed me, feed me, feed me desire. LOL
I hate it when people have pets and mistreat them, like having a dog and leaving it chained morning, noon & night. Or having cats, so many that they get ignored and malnourished.
Hi Cleo, Marg. Everyone doesn’t have to leave just when I show up.
Cleo we had two dogs, mother and daughter, and two unrelated cats. We had to put down the mother dog 2 years ago. She had diabetes and cancer, and it got so bad she couldn’t lie down without crying for 10 min. Our oldest cat left us last summer. She was nearly blind and deaf and didn’t always know where she was. We got to enjoy her for nearly 22 years and couldn’t stand to think of her spending what little time she could have dragged out in a steadily worsening condition. Our other cat had been a starving throwaway when she came to us so I don’t really know how old she was. For the rest of her life I guess she felt that the food might disappear if she quit checking. Every time we got near her food bowl she was screaming to be fed. We would put 2 or 3 pieces of kibble in her bowl and she would be reassured. It got kind of annoying at times. The other dog is still with us but she is getting old. I’m glad that she is still fairly healthy and active. They were all sweet and affectionate and I still miss them very much. I don’t know if I should admit to this but they were all totally spoiled.
Sorry I don’t mean to go on and on like this. I don’t want to bring everybody down.
It seems everytime I get on here, I almost write a book.
Good morning and Happy Monday. Are you still around serena? Looks like the Yappy Nuts arrived last night after I fell asleep. Glad everyone had a good weekend.
Morning, Tribe. A nice morning so far. 8:03AM in Houston, TX and about 80° outside so far and a slight breeze. The Live Weatherbug says 30% chance of rain and we need it. I don’t remember WHEN it raind last and many of the lawns here are nothing more than inch tall straw.
I don’t think that I have had a pop tart in decades and probably won’t ever have one again. I tend to stay away from sugary foods in the morning. Years ago when I was teaching a photography class in Seattle and on the drive there I would always stop and treat myself to an apple fritter. Now, I have just recently made a total reversal in the way I eat and most often have fruit and maybe some cereal for breakfast. My splurge meal is dinner.
doc, I only buy the big size anymore, one just wasn’t enough! I love Stouffer’s! For frozen it’s so good, tastes homemade! Whoa, they have FAMILY SIZE stuffed peppers. the only family size they carry around here is the lasagna and some other pasta dish.
My wife has a metabolism that allows her to eat way more food than me and remain slim. She is a very petite woman, but eats like a trucker. But she is very conscious of what she eats and his been a good model for me to stay away from saturated fat and high fructose corn syrup.
About Bizarro, I seem to remember a rather different comic with that name? Maybe not. But thanks, I think, anyway.
I did notice this one with a few moments brousing: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/artsandliving/comics/king.html?name=Bizarro&date=20090701. (I resemble that sign.)
Luckily virtual food is non-fattening, or we might have to get one for our restroom doors.
“…Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought,”
And not just conscience about thoughts of death. Even thoughts of food catch up with us!
Unfortunately, “they” (the “experts”) say that even looking at pictures of rich food is fattening. It seems, they think, that the pictures cause our metabolism to create more fat, and that is harder to convert back to energy, so we get hungrier and eat more, and…
Good Morning and Good Afternoon Tribe!
Woke up to sunny skies and then WHAM! Dark skies with thunder, lightning and buckets of rain. I’m glad we worked on the backyard yesterday.
My girls prefer Toast’ems popups. The chocolate ones are good, or at least they were when I could eat chocolate. I tried the cinnamon and they were okay.
It’s not yet 79 here yet, except maybe the humidity. But it’s s’posed to hit mid-80s, maybe. If the weather wonks got it right today. And a slight chance of thunder-boomers for 24 hours after noon today.
Dry - RE Frog Applause. I don’t recall mentioning your name, although a fleeting thought of you flashed through my mind as I posted. You, my dear, outed yourself. LOL
doctortoon - Until I got married, I too only ate one meal a day. Now I eat two or three. I try to make breakfast and lunch healthy and low in fat. Our dinners are healthy but have more fat used in the prepartation. It is working for me in keeping me at a proper weight.
Re:yesterday’s posts about pets
When I was a kid, we had a black cat that used its nine lives up very quickly The vet said he had his head kicked when his jaw was broken. I was he one who had to keep pushing in the pin but he was a swetheart. A year after he died, a female wild cat (very tiny and afraid) dropped off her two kittens at our place to be fed. It took a month to convince them to come into the house! They looked very much like our former cat and although it wasn’t possible, I’m sure the mamma cat thought she was bringing our cat’s babies to him. Unfortunately there was a poisoner in the neighborhood and they were young when they died. How can people be so mean? This was at a time when cats were expected to be outdoor animals. I would now spay or neuter and keep them indoors if we didn’t travel so much.
We have rain here again today - and it’s Stampede week! But it is nice and fresh smelling outside - I love it.
Cleo I have you beat in the age category - by a few years - but not many.
Dry just you wait - that metabolism sure slows down - I never thought I would have o watch what I eat!
Marg and JFri I love kayaking too but my back is so bad these days I can’t do it much anymore. I love it when we creep up to a seal and it pops its head out of the water to gaze at us before it dives.
Doc Maybe the slow-moving stuff stays forever until it is sold! lol Although I know that’s not true.
Fie on you Digital! Don’t be giving them any ideas. sometimes I think companies discontinue popular items to see if there is an out cry. They if enough people ask for it (and I mean ask for it) then they do what you say: make it “classic” and thus more expensive!
dcguys: I’ve seen you a couple of times, but don’t know if I always say hello. If you are around, tell me: can I stop worrying about you yet? LOL
bmonk- I thought I commented to you, but I lost it! LOL I’m always losing it I know, but I mean my post disappeared.
Well, I’m off again. I did have nice news today. I’m a runner up in a contest. Now if there was money involved, that would solve the other problem I’m dealing with.
Congrats, Shika maybe it is a portent of good things to come.
DF, I think Shika is right - you just gave them an idea. Are you going to the Stampede? I heard attendance is down.
Hi everybody! Back from the weekend vacation and ready to start the week!
The weather here is starting to heat back up. All the weather people keep saying that it is a good thing, but I was thoroughly enjoying the 60-70 degree temps. Oh well.
Drystyha - I left y’all all my lawn chairs but I did locate a several director style canvas folding chairs, a coupla bar stools and a brand new (still in the box) folding chaise lounge with red, white and blue webbing. None of that chintzy plastic tubing stuff.
JFri - Not so much doing the Resume Tango, I’ll be doing hey boy stuff for my wife in her Realty busuness. I did take the courses a few years ago but never got my license. And right now I’m glad I didn’t, there’s more pressure than being a politician in a morality hearing. I may get something later when the economy gets better (but I won’t hold my breath).
According to the prognasticators, the world is supposed to end, reach a new age of enlightenment or something on December 21, 2012. I won’t hold my breath for that one either.
It was very relaxing, thanks, Dry! It is always good to see family.
Rad, I heard about that date being the end of the world too, but I don’t think much of it either.
It is finally doing some decent raining here. We sure can use it. The forests are very dry. I would like to see a good solid day of rain and then more sunshine. We are supposedly having several days of this. It’s typical for us to have a grey day, but usually we get less then a 1/10”.
Marg- Hello, sounds like you had a fun invigorating weekend. My activities have been mainly yard work.
Dry - I can try to rummage up my old cornet. I have played it since grade 7, so I am sure the sound that would emerge from that sad instrument would be lamentable and definitely awaken a sleeper, but I’d hate to see the results of so rude a blast.
carmy - I just went and saw your comment at Non Sequitur. Boy Emet is getting mighty involved in making religious comments lately. I used to like the off the wall comments made by Emet, but now they seem stuck in a rut.
cleo, I noticed that too. I’m glad Doc set the no religion/no politics rule here. I am religious, but talking about it here just makes SO many problems. I might say something here and there, but it’s not something that will get everyone in an uproar.
I only watch my soap “Days of our Lives”, the CSI’s on CBS, 24 on Fox, and a few things here and there, like the old I Love Lucys, The Andy Griffith Show with Don Knotts, Fox news, the weather channel, and that’s pretty much it on a regular basis.
We only use our TV for DVDs and videos. No cable.
Our TV is Digital/Analog but I don’t think we are picking up any signals. I tried to see if we could because it’s hurricane season (so we could see the news/weather). I may need an antennae or something.
Hi Dry. I like reading your comments carmy they are nice and seem to be accurate from what I know. I’ll have to check out non-seq later and see what’s being talked about.
No carmy, that’s one Don Knotts movie I don’t remember, unless I saw it and never knew the title of it.
I watch a lot of movies, forget the titles, and then half way thru say “oh yeah, I remember this! And if it’s late, I sometimes fall asleep before the movie’s over!
Akenta, I just wanted to mention that my knowledge of the Bible is from watching seminar videos of a pastor that was born Jewish and is now also Christian. He explains everything very well and he always gives the books and verses that help you to understand the meanings. He doesn’t say “this what I think this means”, he says “this means this and here is the book, chapter and verse so you can see for yourself”.
Oh dear I am afraid I don’t remember. It has been a while. Someday, I will be able to catch up on it, but that might be a while coming. I can’t do any more reminiscing tonight, I have to go make a lunch for work tomorrow and get ready for bed, good night all!
carmy, the episode where Mr. Foley and Floyd got into that fight , because Barney was dragging up an unsolved case. Many years before they had gotten iinto a fight, I believe while they were playing checkers and they punched each other in the nose, but no charges were ever brought, and then Barney 20 years in the present made them reenact the fight so he could close the case, and they both got so mad at Barney that they ended up punching Barney in the nose!
Dry, I don’t remember that, it sounds like it was funny though.
Barney’s girlfriend was Thelma Lou? I was thinking Miss Bunny, but I think that was Gomer’s gal.
carmy, Yes, she did look the same. Sounds like a nice town she moved to. I loved North Carolina, still have friends there I haven’t seen in years but we call, e-mail, write letters. My boss at the bank I worked at on Bragg, was a retired Colonel. WONDERFUL man, he and his wife were like my parents away from home. She has passed away. I would love to see him again! Gee, I miss those days!
carmy - I saw and liked “No Time For Sergeants”. I like Andy Griffith a lot too. It’s funny how many of us don’t have TV. Our TV is used strictly for videos as well.
carmy, well actually it’s an 8 hour drive and I would want to stay for a week or two, and I can’t leave my dad for that long. I would love too, they all tell me Fayetteville has changed so much and it was a big city when I was there! The hooker district, Hay Street, has been turned into an historic site now (NO GUYS NOT FOR THE STRIP CLUBS!!!!) , all fixed up and really lovely. I’ve seen pictures, sure looks different than it did back in the day!
Oh, I forgot about Dad. If it wasn’t an 8 hour drive maybe he would be able to go too.
My grandfather used to travel all over by bus. He would go from Brownsville to St. Louis to visit his sons (my uncles).
carmy, the fartherest my dad will go is the library and grocery store, he wouldn’t even go to see his grandson graduate from college. He got that way while my mom was still living so she and her sisters would take bus trips to everywhere! They were a hoot! Imagine 70, 80 year old women drinking beer and watching shows like the Blues Brothers!!
I’m back from gardening. Took a bit longer because the mother of the woman I work for came out to keep me company. I enjoy her company, ut she uses a walker and has memory problems, so it is hard to concentrate on what I am doing. But I think I’m done planting for now. Now I can go back and enjoy the back yard, hammock and pool when i want to. Nice perk.
Hi johnnydoc Glad you had a good weekend. sorry I missed you!
Hi carmy, dry and cleo. And Akenta. Sound’s like EMET is stirring the pot again. When he tried to join us, I asked Doc to tell him the rules because I knoew what he was like. He disappeared for a while after that. Too bad. Seems like a nice enough guy, but hard to pin down.
Looks like everyone stepped out. I think I will too. It’s been a long and tiring day for me. I’m sorry we couldn’t get a party going to end your long weekend down there, but maybe you will party after I go to bed anyways.
If you do, I just have this to say:
;-PTOOT! RAT-A-TAT-TAT! DRONE, WHEEZE AND EEEEEEEEEEE!
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in. I am about to watch a movie and it looks like everyone else is otherwise occupied. So I don’t feel like I am missing anything if I take another break.
Hey Cleo how are you? im doing well. tired as heck now but its been a long day and my med has kicked in. we were out of power for 3 hours tonight so im playing catch up on everything. not fun. “golden Girls” i think the song grabed me bc when my granny would watch it i would just sing the song but now i like it.
Topping the news tonight, Yappy Nuts escape confinement at Big Top. Only one nut was too nutty to escape. He is believed to have an aversion to clothes and sometimes talks to himself, he has been spotted before, usually nude at sights that soon lose their popularity because of his unusual proclivity. More at the top of the hour.
I have a burn on my hand on the right pinky finger. it hurts to type…
shika to answer you question from earler.. if i have to get hurt to take a break… no bc i still have to work when im hurt.. im taking care of my self i promise. i cleaned the house today need to mop tomorrow but im sleeping late and reading and watching a movie also. so im going to take it easy. :D
Marg I was doing fire works with Ana and trying to keep “wild child” safe. well she was by me so i picked the punk up and the wind was blowing and blew the fire right off of it. It landed on my hand and part in my ear…. so its cute. the ear is not to bad. my hand is blistered. thanks for the hugs…… im a danger hazzord i know, but Ana is safe. :D
So which one of you two fine young ladies is going to be making breakfast this morning. I think the odds are at even. No favorites. Early in the running Marg would have been the predominant favorite, but at late, tabby has come on strong. Stay tuned for the results shortly.
ALL so i have stired up you people with the word POPTARTS today. :0) so its been a while since most of you had them. i havent eatten them in a while either and theres about 5 boxes in the pantry…..
tabby - You are going to have to be more careful, to many accidents on your part. You are way over the average. Stop and smell the roses. In other words, keep an eye on what you are doing and don’t get distracted by unimportant things. Your safety is much more important.
marg is a great lady… she would not put a charm on any one…. okay her sweetness would do it… lol just messing. but Cleo i may get hurt if i do it… bats eyelashes :D

Looks like this changeable weather is all over. It was sunny this morning, and now it looks like a storm. I’ll check the forecast before I head out.

How was your trip, johnny?
johnnydoc5 over 15 years ago
It was very relaxing, thanks, Dry! It is always good to see family. Rad, I heard about that date being the end of the world too, but I don’t think much of it either.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
Well that’s news to me, end of the world huh?
Thanks for the chairs Rad! You know we’ll make use of them. Good to see that MARKER back up there again!

Yes, johnny, its always nice to get away, even if only for a little while!

Shika - I was born in 1951.
It is finally doing some decent raining here. We sure can use it. The forests are very dry. I would like to see a good solid day of rain and then more sunshine. We are supposedly having several days of this. It’s typical for us to have a grey day, but usually we get less then a 1/10”.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
man where is everybody? And where is Joy and JFri and carmy?
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Dry - I know, it’s like the holidays wiped everybody out.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
Well how do we get this party rolling, cleo? Any ideas?
I could get my one woman band all set up and at least wake up doc! You have any bagpipes handy to accompany me?
margueritem over 15 years ago
Doc: Don’t miss today’s ‘Bizarro’, it’s all about you!
Cleo: No kayaking this weekend, but four days in a row of 17.80 mile bike rides. I’m hiking tomorrow the a change of pace. ;-)

Hi marg!

Dry, I was watching a movie with some of my girls. cleo, i left a comment for you on Non Sequitur earlier today.

Hi Marg!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, what movie?
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Marg- Hello, sounds like you had a fun invigorating weekend. My activities have been mainly yard work.
Dry - I can try to rummage up my old cornet. I have played it since grade 7, so I am sure the sound that would emerge from that sad instrument would be lamentable and definitely awaken a sleeper, but I’d hate to see the results of so rude a blast.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
Now we’ve lost cleo!
carmy over 15 years ago
um, actually it was “Friends” season 2. and cleo is right behind you.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
carmy - I just went and saw your comment at Non Sequitur. Boy Emet is getting mighty involved in making religious comments lately. I used to like the off the wall comments made by Emet, but now they seem stuck in a rut.

I played the clarinet in the 6th grade. I wanted to play the flute, but I had to play my sister’s OLD clarinet while she got a NEW one. : - P

well since doc is up we’ll have to save all the festivities for another night! D a r n it!
carmy over 15 years ago
cleo, I noticed that too. I’m glad Doc set the no religion/no politics rule here. I am religious, but talking about it here just makes SO many problems. I might say something here and there, but it’s not something that will get everyone in an uproar.
carmy over 15 years ago
Oh, and by “here” I meant gocomics.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, I never got into Friends. i guess it was quite popular though.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, before we gave up TV, I was into the whole NBC Thursday night line-up. I saw Friends and ER when they both started.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, you don’t have tv anymore either?
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
I only watch my soap “Days of our Lives”, the CSI’s on CBS, 24 on Fox, and a few things here and there, like the old I Love Lucys, The Andy Griffith Show with Don Knotts, Fox news, the weather channel, and that’s pretty much it on a regular basis.
carmy over 15 years ago
We only use our TV for DVDs and videos. No cable. Our TV is Digital/Analog but I don’t think we are picking up any signals. I tried to see if we could because it’s hurricane season (so we could see the news/weather). I may need an antennae or something.
Akenta over 15 years ago
carmy I’ve noticed EMET brings out your religious comments on other comics :-)

Akenta, thanks for busting me!! Well, you may have noticed that I wasn’t a jerk about it.

Hi Dry. I like reading your comments carmy they are nice and seem to be accurate from what I know. I’ll have to check out non-seq later and see what’s being talked about.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, I do miss the old stuff, like Lucy and Andy too. I love Don Knotts movies. Remember “Atta boy Abner!” ?
carmy over 15 years ago
Thanks Akenta, :)
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
No carmy, that’s one Don Knotts movie I don’t remember, unless I saw it and never knew the title of it. I watch a lot of movies, forget the titles, and then half way thru say “oh yeah, I remember this! And if it’s late, I sometimes fall asleep before the movie’s over!
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, the movie is “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken”.
carmy over 15 years ago
Akenta, I just wanted to mention that my knowledge of the Bible is from watching seminar videos of a pastor that was born Jewish and is now also Christian. He explains everything very well and he always gives the books and verses that help you to understand the meanings. He doesn’t say “this what I think this means”, he says “this means this and here is the book, chapter and verse so you can see for yourself”.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, oh I remember that one!! LOL
johnnydoc5 over 15 years ago
I love that movie, but he says “Atta boy Luther!” That was Don Knotts Character’s name.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
The movie “The Ghost and Mister Chicken” is great. I loved Don Knotts. My favorite movie of his is “The Incredible Mr. Limpet”.
carmy over 15 years ago
johnny, oops. you are correct. I must have been thinking of one of his other characters in a different movie. I should of used Bon Ami.
carmy over 15 years ago
I also liked the Don Knotts movie where he was in charge of a magazine, he was sort of like Hugh Hefner. He could do all these different bird calls.
johnnydoc5 over 15 years ago
I am not too familiar with any of his other work, outside of that and the Andy Griffith show, I don’t watch a lot of TV.
carmy over 15 years ago
The movie was “The Love God?” Did anyone see “No Time For Sergeants”? It starred Andy, but Don Knotts had a small part in it.
carmy over 15 years ago
johnny, I thought Floyd the barber was hilarious on Andy Griffith.
johnnydoc5 over 15 years ago
Oh dear I am afraid I don’t remember. It has been a while. Someday, I will be able to catch up on it, but that might be a while coming. I can’t do any more reminiscing tonight, I have to go make a lunch for work tomorrow and get ready for bed, good night all!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, the episode where Mr.
Akenta over 15 years ago
Getting late again for me. Everyone have a good night and see you tomorrow.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, I don’t remember that, it sounds like it was funny though. Barney’s girlfriend was Thelma Lou? I was thinking Miss Bunny, but I think that was Gomer’s gal.
carmy over 15 years ago
Goodnight johnny. Goodnight Akenta.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy yeah barney’s girl was Thelma Lou. She moved to North Carolina a couple of years ago, to the town the story was based on.
I think Miss Bunny came from Gomer Pyle, USMC if I remember correctly.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, I think I remember reading about that in People magazine. She looked like the same, just older.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, Yes, she did look the same. Gee, I miss those days!
cleokaya over 15 years ago
carmy - I saw and liked “No Time For Sergeants”. I like Andy Griffith a lot too. It’s funny how many of us don’t have TV. Our TV is used strictly for videos as well.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, you’re not too far from North Carolina, why don’t you plan for a trip soon?
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, well actually it’s an 8 hour drive and I would want to stay for a week or two, and I can’t leave my dad for that long. I would love too, they all tell me Fayetteville has changed so much and it was a big city when I was there! The hooker district, Hay Street, has been turned into an historic site now (NO GUYS NOT FOR THE STRIP CLUBS!!!!) , all fixed up and really lovely. I’ve seen pictures, sure looks different than it did back in the day!
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Well, we are about to sit down to dinner. I will try to return later. Have a nice evening if I don’t see some of you later.
carmy over 15 years ago
Oh, I forgot about Dad. If it wasn’t an 8 hour drive maybe he would be able to go too. My grandfather used to travel all over by bus. He would go from Brownsville to St. Louis to visit his sons (my uncles).
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
carmy, the fartherest my dad will go is the library and grocery store, he wouldn’t even go to see his grandson graduate from college. He got that way while my mom was still living so she and her sisters would take bus trips to everywhere! They were a hoot! Imagine 70, 80 year old women drinking beer and watching shows like the Blues Brothers!!
Joy would have had a blast with them!!

carmy, gotta go for a bit! If I don’t get back, sweet dreams (((((((((((((((((my friend))))))))))))))))))

Hi guys,
I’m back from gardening.

More at the top of the hour.

tabby - You are going to have to be more careful, to many accidents on your part. You are way over the average. Stop and smell the roses. In other words, keep an eye on what you are doing and don’t get distracted by unimportant things. Your safety is much more important.
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Cleo i think the kids safety was more important then mine at that point in time.
