Newspaper report from yesterday there where 6 underdeveloped tornado’s that took place. Haysville schools are closed due to a lot of roof damage.
Now for today a whole different story glorious weather and cool.
Thanks to you all for your patients since there is not to many of us from KS area. I know everyone saw what was posted and some may never experience what we had.
To a much lesser degree, I experienced a day similar to that when I was living in Dallas where the area sirens went off. Scary, but fortunately nothing touched down and I had no damage. I didn’t - and still don’t have a basement to take cover in.
All we have is a lower level no protection. Strange storm watchers from TV stations actually showed one of tornado near Haysville. Haysville is south of us 25 min HWY driving.
Grog that disconnect scanner I talked about. Turns out the DIO computer repair guy has to wait to get with his boss who is in FL for a seminar the dept sent him to for Monday to find out why now it’s not going by sections. Three is bar code disconnect scanner suppose to recoginze and doesn’t. I told them it does scan not separate.
Good morning, tribe!
I’ve still got to make my comic rounds, get breakfast, and walk around outside to see if there’s any damage here from the hail storm.
I thought some people might be interested in watching this video from KSN (Wichita’s NBC affliliate). Sounds like Wichita might have set a new record for the largest hailstone last night.
Good afternoon all. I’ll be kind of missing for the next few days as I start a new job down in Washington DC. When I get them all straightened out I’ll be able to resume my normal morning routine and join y’all for breakfast and commentary. In the meantime stay healthy and vote out the incumbents if you have a chance to. :-) We did it here with Arlen “not proven” Specter. You can do it tooo. If these people are so smart, why do they have so many problems to fix that they created?
Hello to allGrog eggbeaters, pancakes, Canadian bacon, and maybe some oatmeal (with a few raisins??) Please? I will drink hot tea with some cream for my brunch this day.
Hi, hope&joy! Did you miss out on the storms last night? The ones that hit here went too far south for you to get hit, but didn’t know if the band that went through Topeka might have left some rain for you or not.
Hi Rmom - Thought your power must of been out as to why you wern’t on right after the storm. Hope all is fine therre. Thanks for the link.
See you later Hopeandjoy2.
Not much actual damage, not to common for this late in the year though. A few miles west of me in Goddard hail was at least softball size or larger. It went through the roofs of the houses, some houses had 6 or more holes in there roofs. Good thing it wasn’t thick but was spread out a lot. I tried to get a picture I saw on TV of hail next to a CD disk, the same size, but couldn’t find it. Here are a couple of pictures though you might like.
Grog - How early do you start work? My hubby has to be at work at 6am, but their lunch isn’t until 12. (They used to start at 7am, but didn’t change lunch when they changed the start time.)
Of course, the hourlies get a morning break, and he doesn’t. But if he wants to take longer than 30 minutes, he’s not in trouble.
But then, they work a 12 hour shift, so this way lunch is still in the middle of their day.
Rmom, Our hourly people are shift workers and start at 5 and do 12 hour shifts. Staff can get in anywhere from 5AM to 9 AM. I’m usually in around 6:30AM.

UPDATE FOR BIRDBRAINS & NORMALS
Fellow Birdbrain Allan V is having a birthday today.
We are not sharing the chocolate cake with him. It is hard enough trying to keep MontanaLady from eating it all. He can have some of the cheescake though.
Hi Rmom, It sure was a relief to see you Sister Kab & Sojo were okay last night. Each time one of you didn’t post for more than 15 minutes I started worrying.
I can understand, Luv. Even if my laptop could run on battery, the router doesn’t. At least you knew I was in the basement, so I was safe. There are some neat videos on the newspaper’s website. I hope this link works, you may have to select which video you want to watch.
Well, I certainly don’t expect you guys to endanger yourselves just to reassure us you are okay. It was just a relief when I checked in and saw you back.
Which reminds me Pepsi products are advertising MADE WITH REAL SUGAR I burst out laughing in the store when I saw it.
Rmom - Thanks for that link also. I’ve put that home page on my favorites bar as I no longer take the paper. (And newspapers wonder why their subscriptions are down when they put their papers on-line for free?)
Luv - I’ve thought about buying Mt. Dew made with real sugar (as opposed to high fructose corn syrup), but I’ve only seen it in cans. I like the little bottles with screw on lids. I’m klutzy enough that it helps to prevent accidents. (And I like to drink while I’m at my computer.)
Sojo - I’ve noticed some newspapers (like Winfield’s) have some free on-line, but if you want to read in-depth, they’ve got an e-subscription available. I think that would work best for newspapers to stay financially afloat, so you would think the Eagle-Beagle would adopt a similar policy. I did have to register to get their full content, but it is free, so I don’t know how that really helps them. I get almost all my news either through internet or radio. We do get a few publications, but those are more for our sons’ benefit.
Sojo - I wondered if anyone was going to think that. I’ve seen posts on the internet that made me think “that person is either drunk or high”. Nope, all I drink at home is pop or water. (Away from home I might order lemonade, Hi-C or a milkshake.)
Can I still get a (late) breakfast?
Eggs, over easy
White toast, with butter and jelly
Canadian Bacon
Doc Toon’s WORLD FAMOUS NUCLEAR COFFEE
Does anyone remember Get Smart’s Chicken stuffed with Chocolate Covered Cherries?
“And hold the cherries!”
“I don’t want to hold the cherries; my hands will get gooey. You hold the cherries if you want them held!”
Winky may need to be relieved of his “soul burdens”, but I’m willing to experience a few moments of peril (as with Sir Galahad, especially from about 6:00 and on…)
It seems like not so long ago that manufacturers were going to “high fructose corn syrup” (that is, thick sugar water, made from corn) to avoid higher cost as well as having to put “sugar” so high on their ingredient lists. Now they are getting back to “sugar”.
We have had much nicer weather than in Kansas. I’m glad you all down there are safe!
We did recently get a shipment of shingles for our roof. They are currently sitting on the sidewalk, and seem to work just fine: the pallet is being kept nicely dry…
bmonk - LOL! I’m glad your pallet is dry. :) We need a new roof put on here, but with a 10/12 pitch, I haven’t noticed any roof leaks. We had a little leakage in the basement last evening, but thankfully, only on the cement floor. The siding project still has a ways to go before it will be done. My hubby had planned on taking vacation next week to work on it, but then they sent him to Iowa this week, so who knows when he’ll be able to get away?
Luv - I think you expressed yourself quite well. Not rude, but still standing up and not backing down.
I think some people enjoy being grumpy, and work hard to make everyone around them that way too.
Some people are like that, I know sometimes when I am cranky and around people I have a hard time not spreading it. That’s why I usually don’t say much if I am cranky.
Luv - I know that was the way my mom handled things, when she was mad. She’d be quiet, rather than saying something she’d regret later. I’m not sure if I do, but as I get older, I know I’m getting quieter, especially if I’m not in a good mood.
hi all! im very very excited today b/c i got to see my new laptop! My school gives us laptops for the year, takes them back for the summer, and gives them back after summer. It’s a macbook pro, and loaded up with all the good software, even the ones that cost money! and it’s all FREE! (at least to me, its part of the tution fee for my parents, i guess.)
unfortunately, i got to see it today for “laptop orientation,” which they do the first year u get them, but they aren’t given out till next friday, so we don’t get to see them again till 8 days from now! :(
Just read that record-breaking hail stone was 7.75 inches in diameter. It takes pretty big hail to punch holes in roofs, but that’s what west Wichita got last evening. Even the airport got holes in the concourse roof. 6 tornadoes touched down in KS last evening - 5 in Sedgwick county, 2 in Cowley, & 1 in Greenwood. Thankfully, I haven’t heard of any people being killed or even injured.
Hi Rmom, Sojo, Kab, Grog, LUVH8,Bmonk, MontanaLady, Runswb, Frank, Johanan, Lonewolf, Doc toon, and All present
this will be short…Rmom and Kab We just had lots of thunder, wind gusts, lightning, rain over several hours but as stated last night, no watches or warnings…very strange. Glad you survived. Lots of times storms go north or south of us but other times they come right down hwy 50 so I am glad we live a few miles south in town….have spent some nights in downstairs shelter though.
Rmom - I looked at some of those earlier. A couple of good pictures of the hail had people’s pictures in them and I didn’t want to show them. It wasn’t anything close to the hail storm in the 90’s. That was a really bad one.
Hello all well I glad The Sojourner mentioned the hail storm of the 90’s. We lived way from Wichita at that time and that storm followed Hwy 400 all the way to Wichtia heading east then made a right turn to OK. Then that went into a major tornado.
We say that big hail my car took a big hit.
News seems to forget I’m not sure what real year it was but there where bigger hail stones that hit town of Cheney. 1950’s maybe I wasn’t there. I had to ask hubby as he was just going to big K back then.
I forgot I talked to this lady where I work at and a this guy where one lives in Haysville and out side. The one in Haysville said tornado went over her house she didn’t think she had damage.
Guess I will look in on BC and see what is going on RmomHaven’t taken much of a tour recently and I will be involved with a funeral preparations tomorrow…sad.
Nite JarliddieI think we may be the subject of one of your school papers, huh. Should be interesting.
Jarliddie if you see this your forniate to receive a lap top I don’t believe the public schools here have for students. Cost to much in budgets.
I totally missed out on BC as I have to cut back on some strips.
We did see that big hail. The Admin Assist lives in Goddard I asked her about her car she had hers in garage.
hopeandjoy2 I missed out you said funeral. I remember one of your family members about the tumor. I missed out on comments. I’m sorry for you that will be hard.
Kab back from reading BC. My daughterinlaw is fine, her tumor was benign. My niece with ovarian cancer died yesterday and I haven’t said anything about that until now, at the end of the day. She was like a younger sister to me and she is free from pain. I believe life is eternal.
hopeandjoy2 If I pressured you into saying I’m sorry. My prayers go with you and your niece’s family. For ones who believe yes.
My dad for instant believed, I have never forgotten, his last prayer more then 11 years ago with family gathered around for Thanksgiving mom wanted to have his side of family together, turned out to be last one. One part of prayer he gave was thanking our Lord for the time he had left and he wanted to enjoy each day. I believed at that time he new his days where numbered, rest of us where in shock. When my dad went to hospital he knew he would go to heaven and he did.
Thank you though for sharing this way the people of BT can share and care for you help make days a little less painfull.
MisngNOLA I with Rmom curious what type of job you got also in DC and I envy you.
Somehow me asking makes me feel bad with what your going through, hopeandjoy2
Through my daughter seeing family Dr. for allergies I’m trying this over counter for allergies to see if can keep from going to Dr. keep my sinus passage from getting infection this is definatly working.
I too read BC which I don’t to much. BBS you did okay on your statement. I guess that’s why BT is popular. I think there is one more which gains more comments that the rules for changing words is on.
Well for Saturday if I can get up early enough our last helping day at fair. Will be very busy.
Hmm… your screen name is very appropriate. You have brought both to us since you have joined us. I am sorry to hear about your loss of your niece. Luv and Prayers for your family and friends. Continued positive thoughts for your daughter’s recovery.
(I know technically she is a daughter-in-law, but it sounds like in your heart she is you daughter.)
Thank you everyone for your support at B.C., I am flattered. Everyone on B.C. was so supportive of each other, it made my heart happy. I just felt like lending my support too.

George Arnold about 14 years ago
Rmom - Don’t drink and operate a computer at the same time! It’s like drinking and drivi … ummm … forget that - wromg kind of drink
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Sojo - I’ve noticed some newspapers (like Winfield’s) have some free on-line, but if you want to read in-depth, they’ve got an e-subscription available. I think that would work best for newspapers to stay financially afloat, so you would think the Eagle-Beagle would adopt a similar policy. I did have to register to get their full content, but it is free, so I don’t know how that really helps them. I get almost all my news either through internet or radio. We do get a few publications, but those are more for our sons’ benefit.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Sojo - I wondered if anyone was going to think that. I’ve seen posts on the internet that made me think “that person is either drunk or high”. Nope, all I drink at home is pop or water. (Away from home I might order lemonade, Hi-C or a milkshake.)
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Looks like there are some t-storms in OK, and maybe southern KS. Hopefully, nothing severe since I don’t see any watches posted.

LuvH8 - What didn’t you do now?
bmonk about 14 years ago
Can I still get a (late) breakfast? Eggs, over easy White toast, with butter and jelly Canadian Bacon Doc Toon’s WORLD FAMOUS NUCLEAR COFFEE
Does anyone remember Get Smart’s Chicken stuffed with Chocolate Covered Cherries?
“And hold the cherries!” “I don’t want to hold the cherries; my hands will get gooey. You hold the cherries if you want them held!”
Winky may need to be relieved of his “soul burdens”, but I’m willing to experience a few moments of peril (as with Sir Galahad, especially from about 6:00 and on…)
bmonk about 14 years ago
It seems like not so long ago that manufacturers were going to “high fructose corn syrup” (that is, thick sugar water, made from corn) to avoid higher cost as well as having to put “sugar” so high on their ingredient lists. Now they are getting back to “sugar”.
We have had much nicer weather than in Kansas. I’m glad you all down there are safe!
We did recently get a shipment of shingles for our roof. They are currently sitting on the sidewalk, and seem to work just fine: the pallet is being kept nicely dry…
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
bmonk - LOL!
George Arnold about 14 years ago
Hi bmonk - Hope your day is going good.
bmonk about 14 years ago
Thanks, Sojo–yes it is, except for being far too short.

Hi Sojo, Bmonk & Rmom
I did not pretend to own the site and tell others what to do. I don’t do that, do I?
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
How tall are you? (giggles at extremely lame joke)
George Arnold about 14 years ago
LuvH8 - No, you didn’t!
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Luv - I think you expressed yourself quite well. Not rude, but still standing up and not backing down. I think some people enjoy being grumpy, and work hard to make everyone around them that way too.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Hello Rmom, Bmonk LuvH8 & Sojo!
Done with the work part of the day. Now I get ready for Thursday pool league playoffs.
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
Some people are like that, I know sometimes when I am cranky and around people I have a hard time not spreading it. That’s why I usually don’t say much if I am cranky.
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
So, you guys think I should make the new name more or less permanent?
Hello Lonewolf!!!!There that is easy to skip over.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Wolfie - Have fun!
bmonk about 14 years ago
I’m tall enough so that my feet reach the ground.
I’ve noticed that most little people–for the first several years–tend to be too short, as their feet are often about 3-4 feet off the ground…
George Arnold about 14 years ago
♠Lonewolf♠ - Enjoy your league playoffs tonight!
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Luv - I know that was the way my mom handled things, when she was mad. She’d be quiet, rather than saying something she’d regret later. I’m not sure if I do, but as I get older, I know I’m getting quieter, especially if I’m not in a good mood.
bmonk about 14 years ago

I was over at BC reading the “comments” and had to add just one more little one.
And I don’t know about some over there, but I don’t consider this a wasteland at all!
Just sayin’!

hi all! im very very excited today b/c i got to see my new laptop! My school gives us laptops for the year, takes them back for the summer, and gives them back after summer. It’s a macbook pro, and loaded up with all the good software, even the ones that cost money! and it’s all FREE! (at least to me, its part of the tution fee for my parents, i guess.)
jarlyddie about 14 years ago
unfortunately, i got to see it today for “laptop orientation,” which they do the first year u get them, but they aren’t given out till next friday, so we don’t get to see them again till 8 days from now! :(
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
jarlyddie - What type of school do you go to?

Lots of times storms go north or south of us but other times they come right down hwy 50 so I am glad we live a few miles south in town….have spent some nights in downstairs shelter though.
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
*Ha* if that was “short” I would hate to see LONG!
Back still later on.

Good, this comic is still a “Free Country”. Thanks LuvH8 for standing up to that bully!

Sojo - I’m looking at all the storm pictures on the news websites from last night’s storm. Wow!
George Arnold about 14 years ago
Rmom - I looked at some of those earlier. A couple of good pictures of the hail had people’s pictures in them and I didn’t want to show them. It wasn’t anything close to the hail storm in the 90’s. That was a really bad one.
George Arnold about 14 years ago
Time for my zzzzzz’s. Have a good turnover!

kab2rb about 14 years ago
Hello all well I glad The Sojourner mentioned the hail storm of the 90’s. We lived way from Wichita at that time and that storm followed Hwy 400 all the way to Wichtia heading east then made a right turn to OK. Then that went into a major tornado.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
We say that big hail my car took a big hit. News seems to forget I’m not sure what real year it was but there where bigger hail stones that hit town of Cheney. 1950’s maybe I wasn’t there. I had to ask hubby as he was just going to big K back then.
I forgot I talked to this lady where I work at and a this guy where one lives in Haysville and out side. The one in Haysville said tornado went over her house she didn’t think she had damage.
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
Guess I will look in on BC and see what is going on RmomHaven’t taken much of a tour recently and I will be involved with a funeral preparations tomorrow…sad.
Nite JarliddieI think we may be the subject of one of your school papers, huh. Should be interesting.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
Jarliddie if you see this your forniate to receive a lap top I don’t believe the public schools here have for students. Cost to much in budgets. I totally missed out on BC as I have to cut back on some strips. We did see that big hail. The Admin Assist lives in Goddard I asked her about her car she had hers in garage.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
hopeandjoy2 I missed out you said funeral. I remember one of your family members about the tumor. I missed out on comments. I’m sorry for you that will be hard.
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
Kab back from reading BC. My daughterinlaw is fine, her tumor was benign. My niece with ovarian cancer died yesterday and I haven’t said anything about that until now, at the end of the day. She was like a younger sister to me and she is free from pain. I believe life is eternal.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
hopeandjoy2 If I pressured you into saying I’m sorry. Thank you though for sharing this way the people of BT can share and care for you help make days a little less painfull.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
MisngNOLA I with Rmom curious what type of job you got also in DC and I envy you. Somehow me asking makes me feel bad with what your going through, hopeandjoy2
Through my daughter seeing family Dr. for allergies I’m trying this over counter for allergies to see if can keep from going to Dr. keep my sinus passage from getting infection this is definatly working.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
I too read BC which I don’t to much. BBS you did okay on your statement. I guess that’s why BT is popular. I think there is one more which gains more comments that the rules for changing words is on. Well for Saturday if I can get up early enough our last helping day at fair. Will be very busy.
