I got Alex’s comment a lot in my 30+ years teaching, on a whole range of issues. As a 30-something teacher in the 90s, obviously I knew nothing about drugs, the kids thought, their generation invented it/did it/etc. Same for the internet/WWW, which my 30 year old niece still thinks I know nothing about, HER generation invented all that.
Partly, the latter was due to my refusal to use satnav (I know where I am going and I have a map) and Facebook (I broke up fights every day that started on FB the night before, and it would make it too easy for the Yardie gang members to find me.)
But you can’t tell the kids ‘when you are my age…’ ’cos they will not understand.
What’s the deal? Joanie’s not marrying anybody. Neither is the Rev. There’s nothing wrong with a personal connection to the bridal couple. Some pastors perform the ceremony for their own children, siblings, whatever. My niece got a mail-order ordination and married my nephew to a lovely young lady and they’re still very much together. It was during COVID and was much the easiest solution.
When did this particular strip first run? I guess I have problems with the technology time line. Streaming would not have be prevalent, easy or cheap before 2010.

I always thought he looked just like Rick, if he got his head pulled out of a metal pipe or something.

The second speech balloon should be pointed at JJ, not Scott, in the third panel.

t’s really cool that you can read Doonesbury from the 70’s and confirm Joanie and the Rev dating.

Alex is oblivious to the fact that grannies used to be young – back before she was born…
