Freeze tag, regular tag, Red Rover, dodge ball, hide n seek…these are all kid games etched in our memories… but I hadn’t retained memory of this game until I recently saw a board game with that name, plus then an actual new TV game show (silly but undeniably fun – great to watch if one is in the throes of grief or bleakness). I know I must’ve played it – heck, I might’ve invented it as we all probably did – but why is it now (suddenly) popular or at least brought to mind (again)? Hmm.

Everyone played ‘lava’ when I was a kid. This is a beautifully drawn strip.

Best rendered comic strip ever. The art work surpasses all others and destined to win the Harvey Award. Hats off to Tauhid Bondia.

When our next door neighbor’s grandson would come over, (some 25 years ago, when he was 5 or 6), when she had errands, he would pretend our floor was a deep lake, and he would crawl or jump from pieces of furniture all around the TV room to see if he could avoid falling in. He was such a clever kid, and he never “drowned”. Then when he watched some cartoon, he would be off in his imagination, and make up another game after that…

Sigh. Beautiful strip, and so evocative it takes me right back to that childlike sense of wonder and imagination.
