Creative writing is how you get any job. Write a resume and cover letter.
One possible position is first line supervision; large corporations require degrees for most salaried position, but other than engineering, the specific degree doesn’t matter. That said; you’re better off waiting tables both from the human contact aspect and the lack of soul-sucking. Do first line supervision and you will have ZERO energy or heart left for writing.
Jamie Hyneman of Mythbusters fame owned a dive and snorkel tourist business in the Florida Keys and worked at ILM before branching off on his own and doing that TV show. His BA is in Russian Literature. Robert Vaughn (The Man form UNCLE) had a PhD in political Science.
Advertising? Public relations? Obituaries? Political speech writer? I can think of so many jobs that require rearranging the truth into interesting ways!
A degree in writing is perfectly appropriate for a whole slew of good full-time positions in corporations. There is a dire need for people who know what a sentence is, how to use punctuation, how to organize and present ideas clearly. You’d be surprised. If you’re not in engineering, or accounting, or some other technical area, the sky’s the limit: advertising, PR, law, HR, marketing, and many others. People with Humanities degrees are sorely needed.
A degree is like a black belt: once you’ve got one, then the real learning can start.
I can identify, after 4 years of art college. And people will tell you you’ll never make it, on top of you doubting yourself. But there IS a way. Believe! Don’t listen to the naysayers!
Andy needs to read the comments in today’s strip. He’ll get some ideas that maybe will make him feel somewhat more hopeful than he’s obviously feeling here.

Never did figure that one out. 20 years since getting my BA in English, I work for an answering service.

That last panel, lost in the woods, picturesque as it is, is poignant. ✍️(◔◡◔)

Andy, sit down with an elderly person, ask him or her about his or her life, learn and grow from their experiences.

Is the last panel alluding to a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear?

How about using it to create a comic strip, Andy? Something which you clearly have already been wonderfully successful with! :)

Heavy questions that cannot be answered. I hope Andy can find a solution a day.

Combine the two. Don’t wait the tables, but punch up the menu descriptions.
