Many years ago I had a downstairs neighbor with a seeing eye dog. My Sam at the time was a 17-year old senior, so when her bus dropped her off after work I would occasionally go play with her sweet pup. Unfortunately though he got to expect it and if I was anywhere in sight when he got off the bus he would know he was soon to be ‘off duty’ and get excited while still on leash.
Now, some blind people can see some things, light/shadow, for instance. To the best of my knowledge she could not. No matter though, I would hide, behind stairwell, the bushes, my car, only to hear “I know she is there, come back when you are done playing” moments before receiving slobbery lab kisses.
Didn’t know that the seeing eye dogs are trained to recognize elevation changes. It makes sense when youthink about it. I imagine that some can be trained to recognize the traffic signals lights as well.
The strip was based on a false premise. Dogs can distinguish shades of blue, yellow, and gray. They see red as a dark, brown or gray, and green as yellowish. So dogs can indeed discern differences in colors.
