I thought it was ‘Dance as if no one was watching’. Which is like what the rightwing congress does; they pass legislation (ocassionaly) as if no one is watching.
A nice sentiment, until you happen to be in the grocery store when My Sharona by The Knack starts playing on the PA system. You ever seen a chubby guy in his early 60s spontaneously do the “Carlton Dance” from Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air? Not a pretty sight.
Most “dancing” is either a ritualized part of a religious observance or can be adjudged a form of “secondary sexual foreplay” – and it should also be noted that, when first introduced, the “dance” known as “the waltz” was considered “obscene” by the older generations upon observing that occasionally, other parts of the body besides the hands would touch…shocking!
The rhythmic movement of the human body HAS always ben looked at askance – which I’ve ALWAYS found quite amusing, especially in western culture, since most western religions “teach” us that the human form is modelled after the shape taken by their various “gods” – I wouldn’t have thought that the movement of their “god’s” body could ever be adjudged obscene, but "oh, well, what do I know?…

When I used to dance I wished nobody was watching, BUT I had fun at the Jamborees. Everybody had fun at them!

When I dance, everyone watches. Sort of a horrid fascination kind of thing.
