First I thought they would be listening for rabits. But no… Is this Brutus? :-/

Are you part American Indian, Fred. Tradition says that’s how they used to listen for coming horses. Don’t know if they really did, but I guess this method works for hostile dogs on your trail.

Ear to the ground works best in a place with no bugs.

Long dogs, like dachshunds and bassets, have a galloping mode where their stride is their body length… if they are not too fat.

My grandpa worked on the railroad right after he got out of the army following the Spanish-American War and he told us about listening for trains that way.

Sometimes our British commando raiders used same trick to listen for a train carrying German troops to the front and then blew it up

Also same tricks by Soviet partisans as well in German occupied part of Russia

They don’t practice “Stand your ground?”
