You will be missed don. The reprints of your work were some of the best parts of mad growing up.

Mad Magazine?

When I was a kid, I was introduced to Captain Klutz before ever hearing about Mad Magazine. Don Martin was a genius.

“What me worry?”

Mad as a Hatter, Don was the best.

I knew that name sounded familiar as I hear Dick DeBartolo on a Tech Podcast I listen to.

I remember that guy. At least I remember the odd character’s he drew.

A special call out to one of the better known cartoonist of my youth

Which reminds me. I have his complete “Mad” cartoons in two volumes in my library. Need to revisit it.

He’s on his way to get some mangos! He was known for LOVING them! I used to have a mango tree in Miami and sooo wanted to invite Don over and have a sit and a couple of sweet delicious mangos.

Don Martin epitomized MAD magazine! He was a gifted cartoonist and a truly talented artist, who inspired and encouraged many others. One of my favorites!

Don was one of the best parts of those MAD magazines. I still have a small stash here of my favorite classic issues.

Don Martin was a master cartoonist at accurately describing a sound effect relating to a gag!

Don taught me many new words growing up. Thanks and happy birthday in heaven.

I’m pretty sure I saw that fellow at the mall yesterday. What used to be seen as clown costumes are now normal dress for our young people.

Truly, the artist has gone MAD.

Two years later in 2002, we lost MY favorite “MAD man” ….. Dave Berg of “The Lighter Side” fame. They both were the soul of that magazine.

I certainly remembered Don Martin for a long time.

Sadly,he left MAD on bad terms and couldn’t find another home that suited him. And now we shall drop tHE qUEEN MARY’S ANCHOR ON CARBUNCLE’S HEAD

This is a bit late in arriving, but the character Hector and Carlos drew here is taken directly from the cover of Martin’s “The Completely Mad Don Martin” (dog on the cover version) published in 1974. (No, my memory may be that slow, but it ain’t that good. I saw the cover are while revisiting the two volume anthology of Martin’s cartoons. I would like to see what he would do with today’s political follies — both sides of the divide.)
