At age 13 I developed RA, the fatigue was (and still is) excruciating. No matter how hard I tried I could not stay awake. I slept on the ground against the pump house that was our bus stop on the way to school, slept on the bus, went to first class and slept and every class there after. I would go to 5th hour class during lunch and sleep waiting for class. On the way home I would again sleep on the bus. Sleep on the sofa waiting for dinner and most times fall asleep eating dinner. I went to the guidance office and explained that I was NOT staying up all night and so on. They told me they were well aware of my situation since both my Doc and my mom had talked to them. (small town)All but one teacher was willing to work with me. She failed me in her class, I didn’t care. All in all I probable slept 22 out of ever 24 hours.
My older daughter is a night-owl; she functions better at night. I discovered this early on. Back when she still had a “bedtime” I told her that she had to be IN BED by [whatever time it was that particular year]; sleep was another story. The only condition was that her grades and attitude had to be kept up. She would often read or do something well into the night. Long story short she graduated high school 3rd in her class & still has a fantastic attitude.
If Paige has been sleeping all day, why does she look so tired when she gets home? (At least, I assume tired is what the cartoonist is trying to convey here. If replacing her eyes with a hideous line diagram has some other meaning, it’s lost on me.)
In high school the math teacher was like Mr. hand on Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The French teacher was a gorgeous brunette in her mid 20s. French was my favorite subject.

Why are you staying up past midnight?!

French is an elective subject. If you find it boring, why did you sign up for it?

I loved French class. Loved my teacher and met one of my dearest friends.

If you think French is boring, try Latin

I will solve this problem by seeing that Paige gets bused to an inner-city high school.
