Absolutely AMAZING use of perspective here

I like how Seagull’s height varies from day to day. Now he is making seagull tracks away from the scene for now.

Mom: “What have I always said?”

Wallace: “Don’t leave witnesses?”

Mom: “Well?”

A Mom who cares !

More like she heard the cause of your detention.

It’s “Taps” for Wallace.

Oh no! The dreaded “Mom stare” ( I’ve used that a few times myself).

And the seagull gets outta there before it hits the fan.

Yikes.

I actually feel sorry for Wallace! Mom’s about to crack that pavement..

Oooooh, waily, waily, the Tappin’ o’ the Feets. Next it’ll be the Foldin’ o’ the Arms and the pursin’ o’ the Lips!

He’s thinking maybe he should have stayed on the bus.

Many is the time I’ve been in that position in my misspent youth!

Is Mom originally from Minnesota?

Mom and I were working in her garden when I remarked about how my brother dedicated himself to teaching young people to fish. Mom admitted to something I never had known as a kid.— In school, my older brother was spiraling deeper and deeper into trouble. Finally, he was caught smoking and was sent home, suspended for a week. My mom’s take on punishment was unconventional. She took him out in the National Forest and taught him how to fly fish. The effect was not immediate—he made other poor choices in the next few years—but with an outlet for personal passion shown to him, and the self-sufficiency he learned, he had the strength to turn his life around.

Ruh-roh. Hopefully Wallace doesn’t get grounded again.

Mom has the true evil eye!

One day, I hope to open the funnies and find Yaffle in WtB and seagull in Yaffle.

Seagulls are very good at avoiding oncoming storms!

No need to have her speak. Just ‘louder’ foot tapping would be funnier.

Seagull clearly doesn’t need to see how this’ll end.

When I got home, the story told and validated, the parental units would administer punishment in support of the teacher.

Only Will Henry could extend that simple interaction across five panels and make it totally work.

I love the tiny tapping marks in the first panel.

When your mom uses your middle name, you’re REALLY in trouble.

Funny how Seagull vamoosed the hell outta there.

Seagull has the right idea

This was like the tiny town where I went to school. You couldn’t get away with anything!

Once in elementary school, several of us were caught doing something that earned us a week of sitting in the principal’s office during recess instead of going outdoors as usual. I think my folks must have heard about it but I don’t recall any additional punishment from them. Wallace’s mother should react the same and consider that he’s already paid his due punishment in school.

There is no court of appeal for this Mr. Wallace.

Apparently word travels faster than Wallace.

This walking of Wallace towards a more and more bigger and angrier mother is fantastic. So theatrical!

She’s acting like he did the copying, which he didn’t.
