Like a guy I knew who dealt in chickens. Told his eldest son to go check and see if the hens were laying eggs yet. Kid said them hens ain’t gonna lay eggs Dad. Well why not? Cause you ain’t got a rooster.

Younger son said and I ain’t eating them anyway. You can buy my eggs form the store cause I ain’t eating something that comes out of a chickens bu-tt.
Actually a great question for a little kid — which is exactly why field trips to farms are so helpful. Nothing like seeing where food really comes from and what it takes to produce it.
When my best friend’s son was little (3 or 4) they took him to a petting zoo. They pointed at a chicken and said “look Charlie, a chicken”, he responded “yum”

Growing up (& old) in farm country it sounds stupid to me, but put me in the city and I might ask the same kind of questions there.
