Maybe she only talks to the ones who seem lonely.

ROFL — totally missed this one the first time. A bit more of the Alice and Petey’s genetic heritage is revealed. Grunt!

I was in a checkout line one Thanksgiving day, at a natural foods store. I thanked the cashier for working on a holiday, and jokingly said “I hope you at least get time-and-a-half.” She glared at me and said, “Well that is none of your d*mn business!” which shocked me into silence. But she must have known that was an inappropriate response, because every time I shopped there afterwards – and I did try to avoid her line – if she saw me, she was overly friendly and would go out of her way to make me come to her register.

The cashier doesn’t mean to be uncommunicative. You just have to take some things for grunted.

The cashier has a problem but it’s not for you to try to correct. Quit trying to talk to her.

Most groceries monitor their cashiers and how many items they scan per minute, a common standard scan requirement is 28+ items, cashiers unable to meet this or terminated.

In the cashier’s defence, I don’t know what I’d say in response to that either. I’ve never known how to respond to somebody who laughs at something they said that wasn’t a joke.

Ha! You would think that Petey would be relieved that they had not been hugged. It’s best to stay clear of the mercurial ones.
