A Hershey bar used to be a nickel. A bottle of Coke or Pepsi was a nickel. A bag of Fritos was a nickel. During the Depression, an apple was a nickel.

If it’s all the same to you Auntie Broom, I’d rather have a dirty old dollar than a shiny new nickel.

I used to get a two dollar allowance every other week, back in the 50’s.

“And in return for that shiny new nickel, I expect you to do ALL the chores around here, as well as get straight "A"s in school, and NEVER come to me with your puny problems!"

Not everyone appreciates sarcasm.

My grandfather sent me to corner store (late 40’s) with a nickle for the 3¢ newspaper, I got the change for penny candy

I remember back in the ’70s, a hamburger and a fountain drink could be had for just under a dollar. No cheese on the burger, though. That additional dime put it over a dollar.

If you can’t buy a happy meal at McDonalds with your allowance, it’s not enough.,..

I remember when a nickel would buy me enough candy to last a week.

Whaddaya mean? When Broomhilda was a girl, her allowance was a farthing!

That doesn’t today’s allowance standard, but then where is Broomie getting the money.

Apples were free for me, even to all I could eat! Actually at the rate of picking a minimum 3 bushels per hour!

Didn’t Rockefeller give out dimes?

My grandmother always remembered the sign over lemons in a store: “Two for a nickle, three for a dime”. She was tempted to ask for two nickels worth…
