Interesting! How about that!?! I’ve never thought of my “old phone” ringtone as defining me in that way. I suppose it does. I have tried dozens of different ringtones over the years, but keep going back to the one that sounds like an old rotary telephone. It’s the sound the best catches my attention when it rings.

One of the guys I work with has a ringtone of the theme from “Mr. Ed.” That’s for his wife’s phone.

I don’t wanna know about their family dynamic…

You’re a plugger if your phone actually makes a noise (and possibly if anyone you know is calling you).

For a time, I had an app that had a rotary dial to dial the phone. I was trying to convince my mom she could handle a smart phone

Then the problem becomes, “whose phone is ringing?”

I’d have to pay for and download that tone, so I just use the default. This week I discovered an oddity on my phone, I left it on a text thread with my wife and the next text she sent I got a tone, but no notification. It seems that the phone assumed I had read the text as soon as it arrived.

I use different ringtones for different people. Certain people do get the “old rotary phone” ringtone.

My wife did that on her old phone as it was the only ring tone nobody else had.

My cell ringtone is “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”. Because you never know which one of them is calling.

I have my text alerts customized. The lady I work for part time ring is the old modem dial up. Its a bit long and unfortunately she not capable of consolidating thoughts into a single message. So while the alert is running through she has another (or 3) on the way

“Wipeout” for Mom. She could out-hula a hula dancer to that song, even when she was kneading bread dough.

I wish.. there was an old phone ringtone available on my phone. 50 odd choices and none of them are loud enough to hear in a noisy location.

Maybe because it sounds like a phone and not someone’s radio? Granted, I do prefer the less obtrusive sound of sudden music as compared to that old phone ring but the ring leaves no doubt as to what wants me.

“Tenth Ave Freeze out” for a ringtone and the opening riff of “Aqualung” for texts. I make them myself using the Garage Band app.

My favorite ringtone! The ones that came with my phone were AWFUL – all cutesy tinkly stuff & the 2 “standard” electronic ones – so I had to hunt online for a free REAL ringing phone sound. Much better!

Work phone ringtone is that of the red phone from Our Man Flint. Personal phone depends on who is calling, General tone for those without one is The Liberty Bell March by JP Sousa (AKA Monty Python). And the tone for our solicitor is The Theme to Perry Mason.

I use The Who’s: Won’t get Fooled Again, as it’s the only tone I can actually hear when the phone rings.

I like a ringtone I can ignore, just like I did my old phone once they put an off switch on the ringer circuit. Voice mail is there for a reason.

My first smart phone – a Palm Centro – had an assortment of ringers – for our immediate families, for cousins and such, for clients, for friends, etc.

My current phone has one ringer as it was the only one I could get to work with the piece Sh!!!!t. Unfortunately husband had the same problem (same phone manufacturer) so when the phone rings not sure which one it is or who it is.

Then again about 98% of my phone usage is text messages from what I refer to politely as “the other political party”.

I call my 95yo mom on Sunday nights for an hour long call while I cook dinner.

Husband and I text back forth important things such as – while home – me “dinner?” him – “maybe turkey burger patties with fries” me“soup?” Him- “chicken rice”. Me “ok” (when dinner is ready).

When out (though mostly this was pre-Covid when we actually separated in stores to walk around, now only do same rarely). Him “?” Me “meet by the door.” So we could meet up and leave – note the lack of discussion of about anything having been bought, he just likes to walk around in stores and waste my time.
