I hope the hummingbird shows up outside my bedroom window again this year. It can take all the time it wants to decide which flower to sample.

Not an ornithology guy but my guess is that hummingbirds have to eat when hovering because it uses lots of energy.

We have hummingbird feeders at the cabin. They are very entertaining little birds.

Which is why I hate buffets. There are alway too many people who browse, who pick….get out of the line! Get out, go over there and think!

Rushing into a flower just isn’t his style.

Reminds me of Monk. I’m just now watching it for the first time. Great show!

We have a hummingbird feeder, but the hummingbirds never get to them. The squirrels get on them and suck the juice out of them. I have pictures of this.

AZ has several hummingbird leg banding events that are open to the public RSVP. They capture them, check for existing bands and band them for tracking. They weigh them, check their fat level (by blowing back their tummy feathers with a straw) log the type , M/F etc. Afterwards they will place one in your open palm and in about 30 seconds or so it will fly off. Amazing experience if you can attend !! No harm to hummingbirds! Search for AZ hummingbird banding online

PS. Did you know a hummingbirds tongue goes under its skin up between the eyes and over it’s skull, finally connecting to the BACK of it’s head ?

When you have twenty of them, you can afford to hum and haw!
