The earliest I ever heard of that term was during a 3 Stooges short from 1939 or 40, when they were lambasting the Nazi party and their Axis partners. It was Curley who mentioned “coffin nails”. Which made me think that the tobacco companies that used to say they didn’t know about the cancer risks of smoking was just baloney.
I never got smoking. I mean, you’re intentionally inhaling smoke into your lungs! Some people might equate it with junk food or fast food, but no matter how bad those things may be for you, at least they’re food! If you ate nothing but junk food and fast food, you could live for a certain number of years, especially if you exercised regularly, because you’d be getting some nutrients. Cigarette smoke has no nutritional value; it’s only detrimental.
