The hot dog was invented by an enterprising sausage vendor, who found some long rolls so the baseball fans going into the grounds to watch the game had something to carry their sausage in.

My mom use to cook Johnny Cakes for us when I was kid. It’s been decades since then.

Our town is in a natural basin with mountains all around, they set off the fireworks show at a Space museum on the edge of town that’s not far from the base of the mountains and happens to be right below a very tall cliff locally called “hanglider’s peak” (probably self explanatory but bc it’s where people jump off to hanglide.) that’s where people fight to be for the fireworks show! There’s always a line of cars all the way down the mountain! I’ve been up there several times over the years and it’s pretty neat! The fireworks explode seemingly right in front of you at eye level!

“Pease Portage”? Maybe the Colonials thought every word in a phrase ought to end in “e”?

Traditions are made over time, not stamped in a rock at a point in history. Less fireworks is one of the more healthy evolutions.

Basically peas cooked to mush. But not mushy peas. Even though it’s the same recipe. Excuse me while I lie down for a while.
