This SoCal gal had never seen fireflies until I spent 2 weeks in May in Southern Missouri … and there they were! Magical!

Fireflys : ) They are so prolific around here, they light up my tree lines as though it were Christmas . It’s quite beautiful!

I once saw a program where they showed lightning bugs (our local term for them) flashing on and off in unison. It was amazing. (Pasquale’s Guardian Angel once had them doing that in Pasquale’s neighborhood, and got a call from Upstairs: “Who told you to synchronize all the lightning bugs in town?” “Nobody told me not to, sir….”)

Sadly we have never had fireflies-lightning bugs in these here parts during my lifetime, we have crickets, ladybugs, butterflies and occasionally dragonflies, but no fireflies.
