I was in high school in New York when the useless legislators in Albany wrote a prayer that was ma to be read out to the students each school day.
Until:
Engel v. Vitale 1962 United States Supreme Court caseEngel v. Vitale, 370 U.S. 421, was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court ruled that it is unconstitutional for state officials to compose an official school prayer and encourage its recitation in public schools, due to violation of the First Amendment. The ruling has been the subject of intense debate. – Wikipedia
‘Course nowadays we have more Holy-OMG-Jesus-Loves-Me-Cult-Members in SCROTUM, so your guess is as good as mine how long it’ll last. But it WILL be dumped.
I object to anyone being forced to accept silly fairy stories as a basis for living a good, responsible life. It’s a disservice to our children.
So… Are we counting them according to the Jewish, Catholic, or Protestant numbering systems (which are all different)? And would that constitute the state declaring that one the right religion? Are we taking into account that Exodus contains a later chapter that says what we call the Commandments aren’t the Commandments but give something else as the content of the original tablets? And which translation are we using – and does any state legislature have the power (and intelligence) to designate any particular translation the ‘right’ one? How about the Founding Fathers who refused to use the King James Version ‘cause he was such a jerk and stayed with the Geneva Bible? Or the churches that still recited the Lord’s Prayer in the Bishop’s Bible instead of the later KJV ‘cause they didn’t like the new-fangled tampering with the Scriptures?

They keep saying that the Bible can be taught as “literature”.
This means that I tell my students to open their mythology books to “The Garden of Eden” or “The Great Flood” or the " Resurrection of Christ".

Why not use “A new command I give you: Love one another." from the New Testament? I would approve that.

I demand inclusion of the Tao Te Ching. Also Pastafarians have I’d really rather you did and I’d really rather you didn’t.

I’m sticking with The Church of Christ Without Christ:
Where the deaf don’t hear, the blind don’t see and what’s dead stays that way.
