Unless you and your family are living a vegan or vegetarian life (which is a valid choice), it’s foolish to encourage unrealistic attitudes about food. Whether it’s plants or animals, somethings dies and somethings eats, it’s all part of life and our part in it.

Growing up, my sister loved tongue. Then one day she found out that “tongue” wasn’t just a cute name for the meat she was eating.

Once, while visiting my grandparents, I asked grandma what was for dinner. She looked over at my grandfather, they both sort of smiled, and she replied hasen. I figured it out about ten years later.

It’s funny how some people find eating “cute” animals (bunnys and lamb) is taboo. But eating “ugly” animals (cows, pigs, chickens) is OK.

What happened? Last Sunday’s toon was colored and about the dog (originally July 1, 2001) , now all of these are different and black and white AND before, there were no week day toons in 2024

I swear that my wife was guest artist today. Only thing missing was frog (for frogs legs). We’ve been married 22 years and I got to eat lamb chops at 1 meal when we were on a cruise one time. None of the others except for chicken, which is a staple of our diet.

My uncle visited my mom. While he was there, he asked me if I wanted to see a bunny rabbit. Oh yes! He reached in his red jacket and pulled out a dead rabbit. I think I was 5.

looks like they finally reset the comic to include both Sundays and Dailies …….. they put the first strip re-run in the archive for Nov 20th 2023 (the real first comic was on Nov 20th, 1995) ……. see the brain trust at GoComics at work? so today’s is the re-run of June 30, 1996 ………… .we SHOULD start getting dailies and Sundays on the the correct day ……..JUST 28 years later from here on out. ……tomorrow SHOULD be a re-run of July 1, 1996 Back to B&W woo hoo!

And thus were the vegetarians born.

One rule of thumb I’ve heard is NEVER to let your kids hear that someone, anyone, “doesn’t like” some particular food. Kids will balk at even trying anything they have heard someone else express disgust or distaste of. If you don’t care for, say, Mexican food or lamb, take the kids to a Mexican restaurant (Taco Bell doesn’t count) or a Greek festival. I grew up becoming bewildered at the idea that people didn’t like certain foods, and have eaten everything from haggis to scrapple to c*ck-a-leekie soup to pineapple on a pizza…..
