I’ve had Tivo since they came out, now I don’t have cable or ota. They came out with streaming Tivo which works with Starlink. All my streaming in one place and I can record it. Best ever
In the IT Press this week there was someone who used a old laptop to create a home made smart TV with a remote similar to the remote on my TV (you wave it around and get a mouse like pointer as well as power buttons etc.)
Wireless mice & keyboards work quite well at a distance.
Over 600 channels on TV and really nothing to watch but weather. News is depressing and garbage 99% of rest channels. Most of my home time i spent on computer. Answering Biblical Questions and researching lot of Bible Text to support Answers. Time flies. Love Bible trivia with folks. Uncle Ted is cool like Brutus.
A couple of years ago, I was messing around with the Channels on my Cable System and I accidentally found YouTube! Unfortunately, the picture quality was horrendous. And just recently, I found several “Xumo” Streams that I could add to my “Favorite” Channels. Again unfortunately, I am unable to record from them, like with the “regular” Channels…
Sometimes I have to watch on my computer because, for whatever reason, I can’t turn my TV up loud enough on some of the streaming services. Seems to be common with Roku TVs.
On a side note, Uncle Ted probably WAS the remote when he was growing up so let him enjoy being able to sit and watch for a change.
Tell Uncle Ted he doesn’t need a computer. Your smart TV is essentially a computer and can stream thousands of different movies. Of course you might need to subscribe to every streaming service out there to watch a particular movie
Im impand mega-kudos to Uncle Ted for knowing how to use the remote! I need my 9 and 8 year old granddaughters to show me how to change channels. Which is hard because they live in Florida and we’re in Columbus!
I do enjoy old movies, and when I’m away from a screen, I listen to OTR (old time radio). It does seem unfair that I can watch movies from 80 years ago but not 80 years into the future. :)

With the mouse of a computer you can’t zap but you can scroll.

That’s what I love about Turner Classics; no commercials I need to fast forward through.

I mute just about every commercial.

the mouse is considered the remote for the computer… but I’m sure it still won’t be the same. :j

It can’t beat the joy and comfort of watching from a recliner.

I bought a new TV that streams. Pretty much the same as a computer, but with a remote. ;)
I do miss the picture quality of the old plasma TV though.

The computer does have a “remote”. It’s called a “mouse”.

Uncle Ted needs to know more about computers. They can be remotely controlled.

Wasn’t the response I was expecting, but then I prefer to stream shows on my big screen TV over watching on a small screen computer.

A smart tv with Youtube and Pluto. I’ve found a bunch of 50 year old british comedies to watch.
