Freedom! Rode to school in 2nd grade. To many times our Basset Hound would show up @ school. Teacher would let him in the class until my mom would come and get him. Got to have my dog Claude in class. Good gig until they were on to us! Ha
Back in 1944 I used playing cards and a clothes pin to make a motor sound on my bike. During the war it was near impossible to get high quality playing cards my parents used playing bridge with friends. Few years later I was given a siren that worked when it was pulled to the front wheel.Would chase down truck selling ice cream & double pops with the siren.
I live about a mile from hwy98, north of Raleigh. Starting in spring, the hogs with their open exhaust and grass burner pipes start filling the air with noise. I called the NC State Police and read the desk cop the NC law that says it is illegal to modify the exhaust. He said, We in the State Police consider that a “victimless crime” and we will not enforce the law. Yankees driving down I-40 towards the coast and pass me like I am standing still, doing in excess of 85-90. You got it, State Police must be at Krispy Cream getting donuts. In the 30+ years I have traveled I-40 to the coast, I can not count fingers on one hand when I saw a State Policeman pull one of the yankee rockets over.
My first bike was a used bike that my Father took in trade toward a new one ….(’60s)….. I had to earn the money to buy a new 3 speed, I remember it was $53.00 plus tax ……… had it on Layaway ……….. thought it would take me forever …………. to earn enough …. :)

I think the guy on the motorcycle was remembering how HE felt to make his bicycle noisy & passing on a smile to Red. There are nice bikers out dere.

Reminders of childhood biking. But I never did that to my bike. Probably because someone would tell me not to, lol!

You don’t see Rover after the first panel. He must be cowering in fear from the motorcycle noise.

Big hearted biker made Red’s day. One of the kids at the apartments uses a water bottle to get sound. I give him a wave when we meet.
