I once got hired for a position and move to a different state to take the job. Bought a house in the town I was moving to before I officially started. I get there for my first day and spent a couple hours sitting in the public lobby. It turns out that the person who hired me was no longer in the position he had been and no one knew about me so it took them a couple hours to figure it out. I finally did get taken on a tour and given a desk. Ended up working there for 5 years before I got laid off.
I love the sign in fourth panel. I’m guessing that would apply to bottom of ladder workers only because failing CEOs usually still get golden parachutes when booted.
Something like this happened to me. I was paid a higher wage at the beginning of the job than what was stipulated in the interview. I knew the wage I was actually given was in line with what new hires were getting, and the paperwork came from the owner and it was his decision, so I didn’t question it. I also knew that the guy who interviewed was purposely lowballing me to discourage me. I called his bluff. You may think I was chump to accept such a low wage and that is an odd use of “bluff,” but I looked at the job as a paid internship and as a stepping stone to where I wanted to go. This company was very successful and a well oiled machine, and I knew the experience and know how I would get there would be priceless. Mission accomplished.
