“So you embellished a bit.” I feel a Trump joke coming on.

He probably got into more than one (typewriter key) jams too.

I was a lousy typist, too. Probably why the Air Force had me fixing airplanes. I was pretty good at that.

I served as groundcrew in the RCAF during the Cöld War. the Flight Line was a dangerous enviroment. No need to embellish.

I am grateful the Marines who had my back so many times were not anything like J.D. Vance.

When I was in college, I was such a fast, accurate, and adept typist that I ran my own side gig typing up term papers and the like. Hardly ever made a mistake at 100-110 wpm. Boy, have those skills ever deteriorated! Now I can hardly crank out a couple of sentences here on GoComics without getting a red dotted underline or two. (Fortunately, these are way easier to fix by fiddling with electrons instead of rubber erasers.)

My dad had a logistics job in WWII. The job had to be done by an officer so they made him one. He was stationed all over the South Pacific. His war stories included things like the insane amount of time and effort a general put into the construction of an officers club in New Caledonia and the time a group of officers from a Marine unit composed of Marines from units from units eliminated due to casualties got into a barroom brawl over whose original unit was best.

I remember an episode of “Major Dad”. The major wanted to fight. His superior said they can support the war in Iraq or wherever it was but doing what they were doing. And what they were doing was furnishing what the troops needed. Food, or vehicles, or whatever. I forget what.

Still more than Trump or his Republican predecessor as US President risked.
