When we got our air conditioner 30 or so years ago, it was an anomaly here in supposedly mild (most of the year) Seattle. It’s more common now days as things continue to heat up. (Our unit recently gave out and we replaced it with a heat pump.)
Our A/C went out some years ago during a heat wave where it was 110 for several days in a row. We were trying to get someone out to fix it and when my wife was calling the local hotels and motels, either their A/C was out or there were no vacancies because everyone else’s A/C had gone out. I was fortunate that I was able to trace the matter to a fuse block and I could replace it.
Had to look up Holiday Inn to see if they still exist. Apparently they do, but I haven’t seen one in my area in a few decades. Several motels here, just no Holiday Inn’s apparently.
if we suffered a power outage in our area, the young couple that lives around the corner in the fully temperature-controlled house that they surrounded with asphalt pavement (yes, i’m rolling my eyes) would probably go out and sit in their oversize suv and run the air conditioning…

During the recent power failure in TX for the 2nd time, strangely the Gov was not anywhere around.

It’ll be longer than a few days to get someone to respond during a heat wave.

Mine has been running since May. We have central air so it works out sweet. And to really cool off, go into the basement. Always 10 degrees cooler.

Better invite the wife. Grab a six pack and bottle of wine too. Send the kids to grandma and the cats. ☺️
