I used to work for a famous midwest pizza chain. Once, my coworker brought in brownies that she’d made herself for her birthday, and they looked delicious. She set them on the counter in front of some rarely-used computers, and we got busy making pizzas, but she told everyone who was working that they could help themselves.
A few hours went by, and I remembered the brownies, so we went over to get some. Imagine our surprise and disgust when we saw a single hand-shaped chunk of brownie missing from the tin.
A driver had decided that he wanted brownies so badly that he would just use his hand (with no glove) and no one would notice or care. Never mind the fact that one, we’re in a health crisis and drivers normally don’t wash their hands between stops, and two, we work in a restaurant, which means we have supplies like plates, forks, and knives that could have worked just as well, if not better than his meaty paw.
We grilled him about why he thought that was okay when he came back, and he just couldn’t seem to understand why we were upset when he’d been told to help himself.
I wonder if he’s ever heard the story of The Little Red Hen? If he wants to eat the brownies, he has to help make the brownies. Help out your mom Wilberforce, it builds character.
How it would go in my house: mom would ask me to help bake and I would agree. We’d get started and she’d say her back was hurting or something and walk away, leaving me to finish up and clean up. Got to the point where if she asked me to help with cooking, I’d refuse.
but making them can be the fun part… but he prefers the end part, like when they done baking in the oven to do the tasting part. heck, I might join in too. :g
Doesn’t work that way. Actually, learning to make brownies could be considered a survival skill for a young man or even an older guy. Also, just helping the cook to eat them didn’t go well for those who wouldn’t help the Little Red Hen bake the bread……
Wilbur, just turn around and leave. You haven’t lived till you’ve made a mess of chocolate brownies. But, don’t worry. Your momma can probably do the whole job best by herself. And she’ll be glad to share with her not so helpful son. But, what an experience you’ve just missed.

Wilberforce, half the fun is in the making of the brownies, the other half in eating them.

Well, Wilberforce, you have to make them before you eat them! That is part of the fun, dude.
