There is NO “pest control” that will keep Marm from his … appointed “rounds!!!”

My old pup used to jump the garden fence to take the cucumbers. He loved them.

I was growing strawberries in some raised planters and would watch the fruits growing and begin to turn red. The nearly ripened berries would disappear. I thought at first it was birds or squirrels eating them. One day, I was outside and saw our English Mastiff walk over to the planters and begin smelling the plants in them. I watched as he neatly bit off the nearly ripe ones and eat them. Mystery solved. It was so funny to watch I couldn’t get mad.

He’d also go to flowers, stick his nose against the blooms and inhale mightily, then begin sneezing.

I really miss that big goof.

I got a simple solution. Pepper the plants with pepper. Except for birds, most vertebrates will avoid anything with capsicum, an irritant to their sensitive sense of smell.
