Dan Marino was not the greatest quarterback in Dolphins history. Bob Griese was. Dan Marino was the greatest passer in Dolphins history. Difference being is that a quarterback will set aside his ego when calling a play. In Super Bowl XLIX the Seattle Seahawks were on the verge of winning back to back Super Bowls. At the goalline despite having Marshawn Lynch the best power back in the league to bulldoze in for the winning score Russell Wilson elected to throw for it oly to be pick off. He could have least to call a play action pass.
Taking into account inflation, $51 million in a lump sum in 1973 equates to $360,876,689.19 today per an inflation calculator. So nice job fiddling the numbers. That makes the career earnings a bit more comparable to today’s QBs but those earlier QBs were underpaid (as were all those players).
Take a look at how much CEO salaries have gone up in the same time period…I don’t see why this would blow anyone’s mind; it’s whatever the market will bear.

Mickey Mantle’s jersey made more money than he did in any year of his career.

Ralph Kiner led the National League in home runs many times while playing for a lousy Pittsburgh Pirates team.
They tried to cut his salary, saying “We finished last with you and we can finish last without you”
