Junior Sample on the left has a point, many athletes who are not in sports such as football, men and women’s hoops or baseball who will not see be draft signing bonuses often will find the best coin they will ever see in NIL deals. Lily Dunne is doing okay at LSU despite not participating in either the 2020 or 2024 Olympic Games.
Ohio State’s football team is reportedly making $20 Million this year which led to a funny retort from retired legend Nick Saban. Olivia Dunne is making more than the $1 Million, and she isn’t even one of the 5 best gymnasts on LSU’s team that won the national title. But Texas is full of idiots with a lot of money so paying a lot of money to the best pitcher in softball is probably better use of their money than what they spend most of it on.
The loosening of transfer rules and the legalization of paying players does have one upside. There will be fewer “one and done” basketball stars, since it may make more sense to stay in school honing your skills for a while. Talents like LeBron James will still be an exception, but then there aren’t many like LeBron.
