Sir, those are “jokes” not “conspiracy theories” – you got your definitions mixed up

So, who is the “conspirator” in those cases?

About two years ago, a commentator who was constantly complaining about Andy was advised to try a different comic strip with nicer characters instead. Among the suggestions were Red and Rover. I replied that I would recommend Red and Rover as my two favourite strips are Calvin and Hobbes and Andy Capp with Red and Rover as a strong contender for third place. The reader who kept complaining about Andy did start to read Red and Rover and to comment on it while still reading Andy Capp and complaining about Andy. The reader made friendly comments about both Red and Rover and also about Red’s Mom. However, the reader started to complain that the strip concentrated on Red and Rover and rarely used other characters and eventually quit following the strip because of this.

That reader may be pleased to learn that a new character has been emerging in the strip in the past few weeks. She is a girl named Ruby who is in Red’s class at school. In today’s strip, Red’s Mom is driving Red and Rover to Ruby’s house.

As the character of Ruby started to be established in Red and Rover, I commented that there is also a character called Ruby in my second favourite strip Andy Capp. I remarked that she is called Ruby White and that it would have been more appropriate for Andy’s neighbour Chalkie to have married a Pearl.

The Ruby in Red and Rover is called Ruby Smith.

That would make a great Christmas Special. Andy Capp gets in the Christmas giving “Spirits” and buys a round, even one for Jack and Guitar Bob. Patrons all singing " It came upon a midnight clear, From Angels bending near the earth, “Peace on the earth, goodwill to men, To hear the Angels sing. Then Andy pays off his bar tab. Holy of Holies, the shock of it all, wakes Andy. Twas only a Capp NIGHTMARE!

An editorial nitpick … There would have been more of a logical progression if Ron had said " Andy won at cards without cheating, bought a round, and paid off his bar tab."

The abuse Andy has to take to be able to cadge drinks. And he can’t from these guys, a fight cloud ensues.

They’re more believable than “Trump took responsibility”.

All conspiracy theories are unbelievable, in my opinion. (At least I hope they are.)
