In my house I was the remote control. I sat on the floor in front of the TV so I did the channel changing.

But it wasn’t a problem, because there were only one channel anyway.

Flipping between 2 or 3 channels wasn’t much of a thing.

And we had to watch shows when they were broadcast (No dvr). The horrors!

it’s the reason, back in the day, that a coveted broadcast spot was the one immediately after an established hit program. this was simply because it was easier for folks to sit tight rather than get up and change the channel

And we had to get up and whack it when the horizontal flip started.

And we had a phone that was attached to a cord in the wall, and you had to twirl a dial to call someone.

This is the exact reason why I don’t go to antique shops.

It’s very disconcerting to see stuff you grew up with.

Kids nowadays are so spoiled by how easy things are for them. They have no idea the difficulties of life us olders had to deal with, back when it was necessary to laboriously trudge 8 feet or so through 4” thick orange shag carpet to change the channel or adjust the volume of the tv set.

Fortunately, they only got one channel. I remember when the Yankees got a slomo repeat camera, but they were expensive and they only got one. So if they focused on the runner on third and the outfielder dropped the ball, they could only replay the runner.

And don’t tell your little creampuff about doing battle with the antenna (you know, when the vert hold and the horiz hold weren’t doing the job.) That would certainly be too much.
