So, with the arts being a significant part of the Olympics even in the ancient games (oratory was one of the categories), I guess breaking fits in better than I originally thought.
Anything where 3rd parties judge how good or bad a performance is does not qualify as a sport to me. Sure there are those who can do feats that are nearly impossible for an everyday human and are magnificent to watch, but those are still not a sport. You might as well have portrait painting as an event.
It may be a part of the Olympics the world forgot, but from 1912 to 1948, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) handed out medals across five creative arts categories including architecture, painting, sculpture, literature and music.

How could they have eliminated ballroom dancing?
Oh well, at least they still have rhythmic gymnastics.
Do they still have individual synchronized swimming?

My grandma’s cousin won a gold medal in the 1912 Olympics (and ’08 one as well).

Sorry, Grandpa, those were never considered sports, they were always arts. In particular, awards were given to artworks that were based on sports.
