Most people switched to kerosene lamps in the 1800’s because of the odor burning whale oil created. As an oil lamp owner, I find even the “odorless” paraffin oil (which is refined kerosene) and paraffin wax candles to be a bit on the stinky side – though nowhere near as bad as a kerosene heater.
Although we cannot see her face, this is one of the best detailed women that Mister Carrillo has drawn in a long time, the details of the light and shadow on her hair, and her form in general.
