Most people never get close enough to a bald eagle to tell whether it was a bald spot or white feathers. However, no one ever seems to think it has a bald tail, which is also white. We have a couple in our area who fly “high cover” to the turkey vultures “low cover” in searching for food.

It actually comes from “piebald” which means different colors, usually black and white.
