At the start, he also couldn’t fly; he would actually “leap tall buildings in a single bound”. He wasn’t impervious to damage, he didn’t have X-Ray vision, etc., etc. He was a super man; his strength came from his people having evolved on a planet with much higher gravity. When he needed to get somewhere in a hurry, he would jump up onto the (then brand-new in most places) electric lines and run “faster than a speeding bullet” – which is also how he avoided being shot; he dodged the bullets.
A good friend from college worked (works? not sure if still doing so) for DC comics for awhile writing comic books. (My husband is a villain in one of the first Man Bat comics.) If I get a chance and remember I will ask about why Superman’s clothing is what it is.

A few thousand years ago, I wonder if kids had serious, in-depth conversations about what KIND of lion-skin Hercules wore.

Have to love a funny comic, that is yet also informative! Good job, Mr. Cravens!

Wow! Never gave it much thought…until now. One more thing for me to ponder at night when I should be sleeping. Thanks, Greg.

Being “old school,” I prefer the traditional look for the “Man of Steel.”

Kids discussing ancient history, that’s refreshing.

As I recall, Ma Kent made his outfit from the cloth he was wrapped in when he arrived.
