I have a long-handled, wide-toothed de-tangling comb that will just get that pesky spot between my shoulder blades that I’m no longer flexible enough to reach any other way.
I have a comb to clean the hair out of the brush. Sadly, I have to use it much more often now. I take care of my brush because, like so many other things, they don’t make them like it anymore. Rubber or plastic “bristles” just don’t work that well.
Husband has long hair pulled back in a “queue” (pony tail) all the time as correct for our 18th century reenacting. It has changed over the decades from black to grey and now is a LOVELY shade of white.
My hair is long and brown and with the exception of single hair strands here or there is still brown. I use a hair clip – I gather it up on top of my head and clip it there. When doing reenacting events I use a metal barrette instead as it will hide easily under my cap.
I cut both the hair of both of us. When his gets too long – I clip the bottom off as much as he wants off, with one clip. When my hair has too much falling back over the clip, I put in it a pony tail, flip same over my head and clip – if it is not even, doesn’t matter as always up and same can’t be seen when we go out.

Best for me is the bark of a tall pseudotsuga menziesii. Plenty nearby.

I can confirm. That’s how it’s done in Pennsylvania. It’s more prominent in and around Macungie, but yeah.

Praise the Lord, my hair is one of the things still in decent shape. But I will still use anything handy and pointy to scratch my back.

You can get a three-foot-long comb so you can also comb your back hair while scratching. :)
