On a lark I slipped over to ebay to see if anyone is even selling tube TVs these days and found a very large selection with some even dating back to 1949 and a couple of portable ones still brand new in the box dating as late as 1993. I wonder how many buyers there are that know they will need a digital converter to use any of them.
I recall being sent to the store with a vacuum tube from the tv or the radio to put it on the tester and buy a replacement if it was needed. Learned the hard way some of the tubes carried a healthy static charge.
If anyone cares to argue about it, “Watch Out For Tubes” IS a sort of nonsensical punchline. But I STILL chuckle when I come back to it, and I drew this weeks ago.

No more “boob tube”. Now it’s “boob flatscreen”. But it doesn’t rhyme.

“Idiot box” still works. And is even more accurate with games.
