Miles doesn’t understand. He’s oversimplifying out of ignorance. Hopefully he’ll learn quickly

It’s not that he can’t read, he just can’t read. Uhh… I mean he can’t read easily.

Miles: “I mean, yeah, you’re still lazy and can’t be bothered to learn, but you do still want to read Robomancers, right?”

Sigh, a classic example of prejudice against other-brained people. We don’t yet know for certain about his diagnosis-as the doc wants to run the standard battery of tests confirming or denying the diagnosis. But if so, it has nothing to do with his desire to learn, and yes he can still read.

Miles has done a classic talking before thinking mistake. A horrible affliction.

There is a difference between knowing how to read and not being able to read easily.

Back in the day, 70 years ago, those with problems reading (most likely dyslexia, or poor nutrition at home) had to sit at the back of the class. Yes, they were the kids from the poorer side of town, wearing hand-me-down clothes and an obvious body odour.

Umm… just a gentle reminder if you’re tempted to jump all over Miles and his blunt assessment and delivery: Miles is nine. Precocious, but nine. Also, he’s simply adjusting to a new truth about his best friend. It won’t ever stop him from being Kevin’s best friend.

It’s not about the ability to read, it’s in the perception.
