Beans again?

Yeah, what about food?!

In the first panel, Dan looks like he is about to go into a shoot out or maybe a thug in a 1930’s mob film.

For those who don’t remember (or are new to the strip)—when we first met Wally, he was against carrying weapons at all. (01/27/2011) (02/04/2011) A lot has happened since then.

If they got all that from that one ship, it seems like a lot of weapons on one ship … but then there was that map of the Tethys Ocean … so maybe the weapons were needed.

The comments about beans made me think of this: These folks were pulled out of Eden. If the anthros in Eden were picked from all over (even Wally, Kirbee, Chic and Irving were collected while wondering the Waste)-then had all of the others been stuck with just eating beans? I suspect that part of the “beans” thing in the Endtown colony was partly for comedic effect. But in the 2nd strip (01/20/2009) there is a note from “Epsilon Two” saying “the tamales were delicious”. The other colony could have just been messing with them—and it worked to set off Hank the bozo. This is a very early strip, and the earlier stuff shows how Mr. Neathery was experimenting with the tone of the story. Anyhow…my point is that the other folks might not have been eating beans. And now I wonder how the food was in Eden—considering it was being supplied by Topsiders. Beans? Steak and caviar? Ratfaces? :-)

Old adage, used in films and TV: “I’d rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.”

Wally knows: You’re not paranoid; they are out to get you.

The mistakes he made, O so gravely, but were only Human, or, Animal, at any given time..

Cracky won’t get fooled again.

Beans and guns. Too bad Allen is no longer with us. You could load him up with beans, hoist a sail and make great time.

And, of course, when it comes to finding food…, they always end up eating beans.

“I’ve learned from my mistakes, and can repeat them exactly. So, lets make all new mistakes so we can learn together.”

And “BEANS” lots and lots of beans. That also hails back to the beginning of the comic.

Pity the man who’s armed with a crate of beans during the gun-heavy apocalypse prepping. Sure, he’ll eat, but he doesn’t want to. There’s no way to hide that sort of rat-a-tat-tat.

Second Amendment Wally is my kind of leader. Stay smart, stay strong, stay free.

Note the guy carrying a case of beans. Beans were an issue at the very beginning of Endtown.

Armed for bear or tigers or lions, or anything that gets on their way!

With a ship that sailed the Tethys Sea it’s good they found firearms and not an arsenal of pointy sticks.
