I took a part time teaching job that did not state anywhere that I had to have a smartphone in order to perform my duties (and I did not have one). Then my boss started pressuring me to get a smartphone so he could text me at any time. I asked why he thought that my part time status made him think he should have 24/7 access to me, and also was the school going to pay for it since it was adding this requirement after I already signed a contract without it? Of course I got no answers to my questions – just more pressure (that I ignored).
Ironically, just a couple weeks later, the school banned smartphones in the classrooms. So I used that when he pressured me more. I also found from other instructors that he rarely texted them, and when he did text it was rarely important or even necessary.
